(7) Prepare to cut the wires that go to the float switch (Fig. 401). (a) Go out of the fuel tank. (b) To get access to the wing tank float switch wires at the front spar, remove the slat access panel No. 6223 (Right) or No. 6523 (Left). (c) Separate the wires that go to the float switch from the wire bundle, forward of the wing front spar. (d) Find the splice in the wires that go to the float switch.

(8) Cut the wires at a good point adjacent to the splice. (a) Make sure the wire has a sufficient length for a new splice. (b) Put a tag on the wires to identify them.

(9) If the wire does not move freely through the conduit, remove the conduit nut, the nylon grommet, and the rubber grommet (if it is installed) from the fitting on the wing front spar (Fig. 401).

(10) Go into the fuel tank and remove the conduit nut at the bottom of the float switch.

CAUTION: IN THE CENTER TANK, DO NOT LET THE TOOLS OR THE TANK COMPONENTS
_______ FALL. DAMAGE TO THE FUEL CELL OR THE BOTTOM SKIN CAN EASILY OCCUR.
(11) Remove the float switch.
(a)
Disengage the mounting nut for the float switch.
(b)
Lift the switch up from the bracket.
(c)
Move the switch out to the side of the bracket to let the wires go through the hole in the bracket.
NOTE: It is possible that the conduit is filled with
____ grease to prevent damage from water.
(d)
Install the nut and the washers loosely in the bracket again.
(e)
Hold the float switch and do not let it fall while you pull the wires for the float switch out of the conduit.
