E. Prepare for the Removal
SUBTASK 27-51-58-860-002
(1) Extend the trailing edge flaps to the 40-unit position. To extend them, do this task: Extend the
Trailing Edge Flaps, TASK 27-51-00-860-803.
SUBTASK 27-51-58-480-004
WARNING: MAKE SURE THE DOWNLOCK PINS ARE INSTALLED ON ALL THE LANDING GEAR.
WITHOUT THE DOWNLOCK PINS, THE LANDING GEAR CAN RETRACT AND CAUSE
INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(2) If the downlock pins are not installed in the nose and main landing gear, do this task: Landing
Gear Downlock Pins Installation, TASK 32-00-01-480-801.

(3) Do this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Deactivation, TASK 27-51-00-040-801.
F. Inboard Wing Flap Torque Tube Removal
SUBTASK 27-51-58-480-002
(1) Install the clamp set, SPL-1726 on the torque tubes inboard and outboard of the applicable
torque tube (Figure 402):
NOTE: The clamp set can be used to stop inadvertent movement of the flap drive system while
the torque tubes are disconnected. If the flap drive system moves, then it will be
necessary to do the flap drive system adjustment.
(a) Put the clamp assembly in its location on the applicable torque tube.
(b) Turn the knob to tighten the clamp assembly on the torque tube.
(c) Turn the rod until it touches the structure to make sure the clamp assembly does not turn.

(2) For tube assembly [32] or tube assembly [33], remove the applicable torque tube guard [37]:
NOTE: The tube assembly [31] does not have a torque tube guard [37].
(a) Remove the nuts [36], washers [35], bolts [34] or bolts [38] that attach the torque tube guard
[37].
(b) Remove the torque tube guard [37] from the torque tube.
SUBTASK 27-51-58-020-004
(3) Remove the tube assembly [31], tube assembly [32] or tube assembly [33]:
(a) Remove the screws [6] that attach the coupling sleeves [5] to the splined couplings [4].
(b) Move the coupling sleeves [5] off the splined couplings [4].
(c) Remove the tube assembly [31], tube assembly [32] or tube assembly [33].
