INBOARD FLAP TRANSMISSIONS - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. General
A. This procedure has these tasks:
(1) A removal of the outboard transmission for the inboard flap
(2) An installation of the outboard transmission for the inboard flap
(3) A removal of the inboard transmission for the inboard flap
(4) An installation of the inboard transmission for the inboard flap.

2. Inboard Flap Outboard Transmission Removal
(Figure 401)
A. General
(1) This task is applicable to the transmissions at flap supports No. 3 and 6.

D. Prepare for the Removal
SUBTASK 27-51-31-860-001
(1) Extend the trailing edge flaps to the 40-unit position. To extend them, do this task: Extend the
Trailing Edge Flaps, TASK 27-51-00-860-803.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THE DOWNLOCK PINS ARE INSTALLED ON ALL THE LANDING GEAR.
WITHOUT THE DOWNLOCK PINS, THE LANDING GEAR CAN RETRACT AND CAUSE
INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(2) If the downlock pins are not installed in the nose and main landing gear, do this task: Landing
Gear Downlock Pins Installation, TASK 32-00-01-480-801.

E. Inboard Flap Outboard Transmission Removal
SUBTASK 27-51-31-980-001
(1) Manually extend the trailing edge flaps to the downstop on the ballscrew. To extend them, do
this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Manual Operation, TASK 27-51-00-980-801.

(2) Disconnect the torque tubes [1] from the transmission assembly [4]:
(a) Remove the screws [3] that attach the coupling sleeves [2] to the splined couplings [5] on
the torque tubes [1].
(b) Move the coupling sleeves [2] off the splined couplings [5].

CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU HOLD THE BALLSCREW WHILE YOU DISCONNECT IT. IF YOU LET
THE U-JOINT HOLD THE BALLSCREW, YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE U-JOINT.
(3) Disconnect the ballscrew assembly [6] with the gimbal [14] from the carriage [8]:
(a) Install a support to hold the ballscrew assembly [6] when it is disconnected from the
carriage [8].
(b) Remove the nuts [11], washers [12] and bolts [7] that attach the carriage bushing [9] and
carriage bushing [13] to the carriage [8].
(c) Remove the carriage bushing [9] and carriage bushing [13] from the carriage [8].
(d) Move the gimbal [14] away from the carriage [8].

(4) Disconnect the ballscrew assembly [6] from the yoke [16] on the transmission assembly [4]:
(a) Remove the nuts [20], washers [19], washers [18] and bolts [17] that attach the ballscrew
assembly [6] to the yoke [16].
(b) Remove the ballscrew assembly [6] from the yoke [16].
NOTE: You can turn the ballscrew assembly [6] and the gimbal [14] to remove the
ballscrew assembly [6].
(c) Remove the ballscrew assembly [6] with the gimbal [14].

(5) Remove the transmission assembly [4]:
NOTE: The transmission assembly [4] weighs approximately 50 pounds (23 kilograms).
(a) Support the transmission assembly [4] while you disconnect it from the transmission attach
