SUBTASK 27-51-31-420-005
(1) Install the transmission assembly [49]:
NOTE: The transmission assembly [49] weighs approximately 50 pounds (23 kilograms).
(a) Apply a thin layer of compound, C00913 to the mating surface of the transmission
assembly [49] and the transmission attach fitting [51].
(b) Apply a layer of compound, C00913 to the bolt holes in the transmission assembly [49].
(c) Apply a layer of compound, C00913 to the shank and threads of the bolts [60], bolt [64] and
bolt [65].

(d) Carefully lift the transmission assembly [49] to its position on the transmission attach fitting
[51].
(e) Install the bolts [60], bolt [64], bolt [65], washers [61], washers [62] and nuts [63] to attach
the transmission assembly [49] to the transmission attach fitting [51].
(f) Tighten the nuts [63] to 500-550 pound-inches (56.5-62.1 newton-meters) more than the runon
torque.
SUBTASK 27-51-31-420-006
(2) Connect the ballscrew assembly [42] to the yoke [53] on the transmission assembly [49]:
(a) Turn the ballscrew nut [55] until it is at the forward end of the ballscrew assembly [42].
(b) Apply a layer of grease, D00633 to the mating surfaces of the yoke [53] and the ballscrew
assembly [42].
(c) Put the ballscrew assembly [42] into the yoke [53].
(d) Apply a layer of grease, D00633 to the shank and threads of the bolts [56].
(e) Install the bolts [56], washers [57], washers [58] and nuts [59] to attach the ballscrew
assembly [42] to the yoke [53].
(f) Make sure the ballscrew assembly [42] is installed correctly in the yoke [53]:
1) Turn the transmission assembly [49] until the nut [50] on the U-joint [52] is up.
2) Turn the ballscrew nut [55] until the upstop is 1808 from the upstop [54] on the yoke [53].
3) If the ball returns on the ballscrew nut [55] are not in the correct position, then change
the position of the ballscrew assembly [42]:
