2. Outboard Flap Outboard Support Fairing Adjustment
(Figure 501)
A. General
(1) This task is applicable to the fairings at flap supports No. 1 and 8.

(1) If the trailing edge flaps are not in the retracted position, do this task: Retract the Trailing Edge
Flaps, TASK 27-51-00-860-804.

(2) Do this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Deactivation, TASK 27-51-00-040-801.
H. Outboard Flap Outboard Support Aft Fairing Adjustment
SUBTASK 27-51-28-480-001
(1) Apply a 150 pound (68 kilogram) weight to preload the aft fairing assembly [4]:
(a) Put a strap across the top of the aft fairing assembly [4] at the line of fasteners for the
tailcone [5].
(b) Attach a 150 pound (68 kilogram) weight to the strap.
NOTE: Make sure the weight is evenly applied to the inboard and outboard sides of the
aft fairing assembly [4].

(2) Move the preload pads [7] away from the aft flap [1]:
NOTE: It is necessary to move the preload pads [7] to correctly measure the clearance
between the aft flap [1] and the aft fairing assembly [4].
(a) Loosen the bolts [8] that attach the preload pads [7] to the aft fairing assembly [4].
(b) Move the preload pads [7] away from the lower surface of the aft flap [1].

(3) Measure the clearance between the top surface of the aft fairing assembly [4] and the aft flap [1].
NOTE: Measure the clearance at the aft edge of the aft flap [1] on the sides of the aft fairing
assembly [4].
(a) Make sure the clearance is in the limit of 0.2639 ±0.05 inch (6.703 ±1.27 millimeters).
(b) Make sure the clearance is approximately the same on the inboard and outboard sides of
the aft fairing assembly [4].

(4) If the clearance is not in the limit, or if it is not the same on the inboard and outboard sides, then
adjust the position of the aft fairing assembly [4]:
(a) On the side of the aft fairing assembly [4].
Open the applicable access panels:

(b) If the clearance is not the same on the inboard and outboard sides, adjust the length of the
adjust rod [21]:
1) Remove the weight from the aft fairing assembly [4].

2) Remove the nut [14], washer [13], washer [11], bolt [10] and bushing [12] that attach the
drive rod [17] to the carriage [9].
NOTE: Support the aft fairing assembly [4] when you remove the bolt [10].
3) Lower the aft end of the aft fairing assembly [4] to get access to the adjust rod [21].
