FLAP POSITION TRANSMITTER - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
1. General
A. This procedure has these tasks:
(1) A removal of the flap position transmitter
(2) An installation of the flap position transmitter.
B. The flap position transmitters are installed on the outboard end of transmissions No. 1 and 8.
C. The flap position transmitters include additional syncros that are used in the autopilot and the stall
management systems.

C. Prepare for the Removal
SUBTASK 27-58-01-860-001
(1) Extend the trailing edge flaps to the 40-unit position. To extend them, do this task: Extend the
Trailing Edge Flaps, TASK 27-51-00-860-803.
(2) Do this task: Speed Brake Hydraulic Systems A and B Pressurization,

(3) Put the SPOILER A and B switches to the OFF position to remove the hydraulic power from the
flight spoilers.
NOTE: SPOILER A and B switches are on the flight control panel (P5-3).

(4) Put the speed brake lever in the UP position to lift the spoilers.

(5) Do this task: Remove Pressure from the Speed Brake Hydraulic Systems A and B,
TASK 27-62-00-800-802.

D. Flap Position Transmitter Removal
SUBTASK 27-58-01-860-002
(1) For the left flap position transmitter [2] T427, do this step;
Open these circuit breakers and install safety tags:

(2) For the right flap position transmitter [2] T428, do this step;

(3) Manually extend the trailing edge flaps until the ballscrew nut [14] touches the downstop [12] on
the ballscrew [13] on transmission No. 4 or No. 5. To manually extend the flaps, do this task:
Trailing Edge Flap System Manual Operation, TASK 27-51-00-980-801.
NOTE: This is the flaps extend overtravel stop position.

(4) Disconnect the electrical connector [1] from the flap position transmitter [2].

(5) Remove the flap position transmitter [2]:
(a) Remove the bolt [3] and washer [4] and washer [6] that attaches the jumper wire [5] and the
flap position transmitter [2] to the transmission [7].
(b) Remove the bolts [11] and washers [10] that attach the flap position transmitter [2] to the
transmission [7].
(c) Remove the flap position transmitter [2] from the transmission [7].
