D. Prepare for the Removal
SUBTASK 27-51-42-860-006
(1) Extend the trailing edge flaps to the 40-unit position. To extend them, do this task: Extend the
Trailing Edge Flaps, TASK 27-51-00-860-803.

(2) Do this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Deactivation, TASK 27-51-00-040-801.
SUBTASK 27-51-42-010-002
(3) Do this task: Outboard Flap Inboard Support Aft Fairing Removal, TASK 27-51-28-000-804.
E. Outboard Flap Inboard Ballscrew and Gimbal Removal
SUBTASK 27-51-42-980-002
(1) Manually extend the trailing edge flaps to the downstop on the ballscrew. To extend them, do
this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Manual Operation, TASK 27-51-00-980-801.
SUBTASK 27-51-42-020-004
CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU HOLD THE BALLSCREW WHILE YOU DISCONNECT IT. IF YOU LET
THE U-JOINT HOLD THE BALLSCREW, YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE U-JOINT.
(2) Disconnect the ballscrew assembly [42] with the gimbal [54] from the carriage [41]:
NOTE: When you disconnect the ballscrew assembly [42] from the carriage [41], the outboard
flap can move a small distance to the downstop on the flap track.
(a) Remove the nut [48], washer [47] and bolt [46] from the carriage [41].
(b) Remove the inboard carriage bushing [49] and outboard carriage bushing [55] from the
gimbal [54] and the carriage [41].
(c) Move the ballscrew assembly [42] and gimbal [54] away from the carriage [41].
SUBTASK 27-51-42-020-005
(3) Disconnect the ballscrew assembly [42] from the yoke [44] on the transmission [43]:
(a) Remove the nuts [59], washers [58], washers [57] and bolts [56] that attach the ballscrew
assembly [42] to the yoke [44].
(b) Remove the ballscrew assembly [42] from the yoke [44].
NOTE: You can turn the ballscrew assembly [42] and the gimbal [54] to get access to
remove the ballscrew assembly [42].
(c) Remove the ballscrew assembly [42] with the gimbal [54].
SUBTASK 27-51-42-020-006
(4) If it is necessary, remove the gimbal [54] from the ballscrew nut [53]:
(a) Remove the bolts [52], washers [51] and collars [50] that attach the gimbal bushings [45] to
the gimbal [54].
(b) Remove the gimbal bushings [45] from the ballscrew nut [53].
