4) Loosen the locknuts [20] on the adjust rod [21].
5) Adjust the length of the adjust rod [21] until the clearance is the same on the inboard
and outboard sides of the aft fairing assembly [4].
6) Tighten the locknuts [20] on the adjust rod [21].
7) Install lockwire on the locknuts [20].
8) Lift the aft end of the aft fairing assembly [4] and align the drive rod [17] with the
carriage [9].
9) Install the bushing [12], bolt [10], washer [11], washer [13] and nut [14] to attach the
drive rod [17] to the carriage [9].
NOTE: Install the bolt [10] with the head on the outboard side.
10) Install the cotter pin [15] in the nut [14].
(c) If the clearance is not in the limit, adjust the length of the drive rod [17]:
1) Loosen the locknuts [16] on the drive rod [17].
2) Adjust the length of the drive rod [17] until the clearance is in the limit.
3) Tighten the locknuts [16] on the drive rod [17].
4) Install the lockwire on the locknuts [16].
(d) Make sure the clearance is in the limit and that it is the same on the inboard and outboard
sides of the aft fairing assembly [4].

(5) Adjust the position of the preload pads [7]:
(a) With the 150 pound (68 kilogram) weight applied to the aft fairing assembly [4], move the
preload pads [7] up until they touch the lower surface of the aft flap [2].
(b) Tighten the bolts [8] that attach the preload pads [7].

(6) Remove the 150 pound (68 kilogram) weight and the strap from the aft fairing assembly [4].

(7) Make sure the seals [6] on the sides of the aft fairing assembly [4] are compressed 10 to 25
percent against the lower surface of the flap.

(8) If the seals [6] are not compressed correctly against the lower surface of the flap, adjust the
position of the seals [6]:
(a) Remove the nut [14], washer [13], washer [11], bolt [10] and bushing [12] that attach the
drive rod [17] to the carriage [9].
(b) Lower the aft end of the aft fairing assembly [4] to get access to the fasteners for the seals
[6].
(c) Loosen the nuts [18] on the retainer [19].
(d) Move the seal [6] and the retainer [19].
NOTE: Make sure you move the seal [6] and the retainer [19] together as a unit.

(e) Tighten the nuts [18] on the retainer [19].
(f) Lift the aft end of the aft fairing assembly [4] and align the drive rod [17] with the carriage
[9].
(g) Install the bushing [12], bolt [10], washer [11], washer [13] and nut [14] to attach the drive
rod [17] to the carriage [9].
NOTE: Install the bolt [10] with the head on the outboard side.
(h) Install the cotter pin [15] in the nut [14].

(9) On the side of the aft fairing assembly [4].
Close the applicable access panels:

(1) Measure the mismatch between the forward fairing assembly [3] and the aft fairing assembly [4].
NOTE: Measure the mismatch on the inboard side and on the bottom of the forward fairing
assembly [3].
(a) Make sure the mismatch is in the limit of +0.03 to -0.01 inch (+0.76 to -0.25 millimeters).
NOTE: A positive (+) mismatch is when the forward fairing assembly [3] extends past
the aft fairing assembly [4]. A negative (-) mismatch is when the aft fairing
assembly [4] extends past the forward fairing assembly [3].

(2) Make sure the seals [26] on the sides of the forward fairing assembly [3] are compressed 10 to
25 percent against the lower surface of the main flap [2].

(3) If the mismatch is not in the limit or if the seals [26] are not compressed correctly, do this task:

(4) If the mismatch between the forward fairing assembly [3] and the aft fairing assembly [4] is not in
the limit, then adjust the position of the forward fairing assembly [3]:
(a) If the mismatch is not in the limit on the inboard side of the forward fairing assembly [3],
then adjust the position of the fairing attach fitting [24]:
1) Loosen the bolts [23] that attach the fairing attach fitting [24] to the transmission attach
fitting [22].
2) Move the fairing attach fitting [24] inboard or outboard to get the mismatch in the
