F. Prepare for the Adjustment
SUBTASK 27-59-00-480-001
WARNING: MAKE SURE THE DOWNLOCK PINS ARE INSTALLED ON ALL THE LANDING GEAR.
WITHOUT THE DOWNLOCK PINS, THE LANDING GEAR CAN RETRACT AND CAUSE
INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(1) If the downlock pins are not installed in the nose and main landing gear, do this task: Landing
Gear Downlock Pins Installation, TASK 32-00-01-480-801.
SUBTASK 27-59-00-040-001
(2) Do this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Deactivation, TASK 27-51-00-040-801.
SUBTASK 27-59-00-980-001
(3) Manually extend the flaps until the ballscrew nuts touch the downstops on the ballscrews
(Figure 501). To manually extend the flaps, do this task: Trailing Edge Flap System Manual
Operation, TASK 27-51-00-980-801.
NOTE: The ballscrew nut for transmission No. 4 or 5 will touch first.
G. Flap Skew Mechanism Adjustment
NOTE: This is applicable to the flap skew mechanisms on all of the flap supports.
SUBTASK 27-59-00-820-001
(1) If the ballscrew nut for the applicable flap support does not touch the downstop, do these steps
(Figure 501):

(a) For the flap position transmitters on the left and right wings, do this task: Flap Position
Transmitter Removal, TASK 27-58-01-000-801.
NOTE: If you do not remove the flap position transmitters before you disconnect the
torque tubes, they will become incorrectly adjusted.
(b) Disconnect the torque tubes [3] from the transmission:
1) Install a clamp set, SPL-1726 on a torque tube [3] outboard of the transmission.
2) Remove the screws [2] that attach the coupling sleeves [1] to the splined couplings [4].
3) Move the coupling sleeves [1] off the splined couplings [4].
4) Move the torque tubes [3] away from the transmission.
CAUTION: DO NOT MOVE ONE END OF A FLAP MORE THAN 1.4 INCHES (35.56 MM) OF
BALLSCREW TRAVEL MORE THAN THE OTHER END. YOU CAN CAUSE THE FLAP
TO SKEW EXCESSIVELY. THIS CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE FLAP.
(c) Use an adapter, SPL-1679 on one of the couplings on the transmission to extend the
transmission until the ballscrew nut touches the downstop on the ballscrew.
SUBTASK 27-59-00-220-001
(2) Measure the mismatch between the crank arm [23] and the flat side of the rigging flange [21] on
the sensor input assembly [22] (Figure 502).
SUBTASK 27-59-00-820-002
(3) If the mismatch between the crank arm [23] and the rigging flange [21] is not in the limit of 0.005
to 0.015 inch (.127 to .381 mm), then adjust the length of the skew control rod [24] (Figure 502):
NOTE: The crank arm [23] must be past the rigging flange [21].
(a) To make a large adjustment to the length of the skew control rod [24], do these steps:
1) Loosen the nut [26].
2) Remove the nut [33], washer [32], bushing [31], washer [30], and bolt [29] that attach the
rod end [34] to the crank arm [23].
3) Turn the adjustment sleeve [27] with the rod end [34] in the control rod [24] to adjust the
length of the control rod [24].
NOTE: Make sure the threads of the adjustment sleeve [27] cover a minimum of half
the inspection hole in the control rod [24].
4) Apply compound, C00913 to the shank and threads of the bolt [29].
5) Put the control rod [24] in its position in the crank arm [23].
6) Install the bolt [29], washer [30], bushing [31], washer [32] and nut [33] to attach the
control rod [24] to the crank arm [23].
NOTE: Install the bolt [29] with the head toward the center of the flap track.
(b) To make a small adjustment to the length of the control rod [24], do these steps:
1) Loosen the nut [26] and the nut [35].
2) Turn the adjustment sleeve [27] in the control rod [24] with the rod end [34] attached to
the crank arm [23].
NOTE: Make sure the threads of the adjustment sleeve [27] cover a minimum of half
the inspection hole in the control rod [24]. Make sure the threads of the rod
end [34] cover a minimum of half the inspection hole in the adjustment sleeve
[27].
