aft fairing assembly [44].
SUBTASK 27-51-28-820-011
(2) Move the preload pads [59] away from the aft flap [41]:
NOTE: It is necessary to move the preload pads [59] to correctly measure the clearance
between the aft flap [41] and the aft fairing assembly [44].
(a) Loosen the bolts [58] that attach the preload pads [59] to the aft fairing assembly [44].
(b) Move the preload pads [59] away from the lower surface of the aft flap [41].
SUBTASK 27-51-28-220-004
(3) Measure the clearance between the top surface of the aft fairing assembly [44] and the aft flap
[41].
NOTE: Measure the clearance at the aft edge of the aft flap [41] on the sides of the aft fairing
assembly [44].
(a) Make sure the clearance is in the limit of 0.2639 ±0.05 inch (6.703 ±1.27 millimeters).
(b) Make sure the clearance is approximately the same on the inboard and outboard sides of
the aft fairing assembly [44].
SUBTASK 27-51-28-820-012
(4) If the clearance is not in the limit, or if it is not the same on the inboard and outboard sides, then
adjust the position of the aft fairing assembly [44]:
(a) On the side of the aft fairing assembly [44].
Open the applicable access panels:
Number Name/Location
543DR Flap Support No. 2 Access Door
643DL Flap Support No. 7, Access Door
(b) If the clearance is not the same on the inboard and outboard sides, adjust the length of the
adjust rod [60]:
1) Remove the weight from the aft fairing assembly [44].
2) Remove the nut [54], washer [53], washer [51], bolt [50] and bushing [52] that attach the
drive rod [57] to the carriage [49].
NOTE: Support the aft fairing assembly [44] when you remove the bolt [50].
3) Lower the aft end of the aft fairing assembly [44] to get access to the adjust rod [60].
4) Loosen the locknuts [61] on the adjust rod [60].
5) Adjust the length of the adjust rod [60] until the clearance is the same on the inboard
and outboard sides of the aft fairing assembly [44].
6) Tighten the locknuts [61] on the adjust rod [60].
7) Install lockwire on the locknuts [61].

8) Lift the aft end of the aft fairing assembly [44] and align the drive rod [57] with the
carriage [49].
9) Install the bushing [52], bolt [50], washer [51], washer [53] and nut [54] to attach the
drive rod [57] to the carriage [49].
NOTE: Install the bolt [50] with the head on the outboard side.
10) Install the cotter pin [55] in the nut [54].
(c) If the clearance is not in the limit, adjust the length of the drive rod [57]:
1) Loosen the locknuts [56] on the drive rod [57].
2) Adjust the length of the drive rod [57] until the clearance is in the limit.
3) Tighten the locknuts [56] on the drive rod [57].
4) Instal the lockwire on the locknuts [56].
(d) Make sure the clearance is in the limit and that it is the same on the inboard and outboard
sides of the aft fairing assembly [44].
SUBTASK 27-51-28-820-013
(5) Adjust the position of the preload pads [59]:
(a) With the 150 pound weight applied to the aft fairing assembly [44], move the preload pads
[59] up until they touch the lower surface of the aft flap [41].
(b) Tighten the bolts [58] that attach the preload pads [59].
SUBTASK 27-51-28-080-002
(6) Remove the weight from the aft fairing assembly [44].
