(a) Remove the nut [35], washer [34], washer [32], bolt [31] and bushing [33] that attach the aft
flap drive rod [6] to the drive rod attach fitting [37].
(b) Move the aft flap drive rod [6] away from the drive rod attach fitting [37].

CAUTION: MAKE SURE YOU HOLD THE BALLSCREW WHILE YOU DISCONNECT IT. IF YOU LET
THE U-JOINT HOLD THE BALLSCREW, YOU WILL CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE U-JOINT.
(5) Disconnect the ballscrew assembly [2] with the gimbal [13] from the carriage [1]:
NOTE: When you disconnect the ballscrew assembly [2] from the carriage [1], the outboard
flap can move a small distance to the downstop on the flap track.
(a) Remove the nuts [15], washers [16] and bolts [17] from the carriage [1].
(b) Remove the inboard carriage bushing [20] and the outboard carriage bushing [14] from the
gimbal [13] and the carriage [1].
(c) Move the ballscrew assembly [2] and gimbal [13] away from the carriage [1].

(6) Disconnect the ballscrew assembly [2] from the yoke [5] on the transmission assembly [4]:
(a) Remove the nuts [24], washers [22], washers [23] and bolts [21] that attach the ballscrew
assembly [2] to the yoke [5].
(b) Remove the ballscrew assembly [2] from the yoke [5].
NOTE: You can turn the ballscrew assembly [2] and the gimbal [13] to get access to
remove the ballscrew assembly [2].
(c) Remove the ballscrew assembly [2] with the gimbal [13].

(7) Remove the transmission assembly [4]:
NOTE: The transmission assembly [4] weighs approximately 50 pounds (23 kilograms).
(a) Support the transmission assembly [4] while you disconnect it from the transmission attach
fitting [3].
(b) Remove the nuts [30] and washers [29] that attach the transmission assembly [4] to the
transmission attach fitting [3].
(c) Remove the upper bolts [27] and washers [28] that attach the wire bracket [26] and the
transmission assembly [4].
(d) Move the wire bracket [26] with the wires away from the transmission assembly [4].
(e) Remove the lower bolt [38] and bolt [39] and washers [28] that attach the drive rod attach
fitting [37] and the transmission assembly [4].
(f) Carefully lower the transmission assembly [4].
