Prepare to Install the Drag Brace Bearing

Clean the bearing housings in the structure.
S 644-007
(2)
Clean and lightly lubricate all surfaces of the bearing.

Install the bearing in housing.

(4)
Examine the dimension between the inner side faces of the spherical bearing.

Find the dimension of shims necessary to get 30.005 to 29.995 inch dimension.

(6)
Do these steps to adjust the shims:
(a)
Remove the drag brace bearing.
(b)
If it is necessary, remove 0.003-inch laminations from shims to get the necessary thickness for each bearing.
(c)
Apply a layer of a primer to each of the surface without lamination.
(d)
Install bearings and shims in the structure.
NOTE: The maximum shim thickness to be installed with each
____
bearing is 0.066 inch.
(e) Install bolts, washers and nuts (6 places) to hold the bearing.

(7) S 714-016Do a check on the distance between bearings.
(8) S 824-017If it is necessary, do the steps to adjust the shims.
(9) S 414-018Install the drag brace on the nose landing gear (Ref 32-21-21/401).
