 1.  General_______
 A.  This subject has two tasks. The first task is a replacement of the active seals for the shock strut with the spare seals.
 B.  The second task is a replacement of the active seals and the spare seals for the shock strut.
 C.  The spare seals are in grooves in the lower bearing of the shock strut. One T-type dynamic seal is in the bottom groove. One O-ring type static seal is in the top groove. Use the spare seals to replace the active seals without a removal of the inner cylinder of the shock strut. When you use the spare seals, you must disassemble the shock strut when the subsequent seal replacement is necessary.
 D.  The backup rings are made of two parts. You can replace the backup rings without a removal of the inner cylinder of the shock strut.

This task gives you instructions to replace the active seals for the shock strut with the spare seals.

Standard Tools and Equipment

Tool - Plastic (for the removal of O-ring type seals)

 (2)  
Metal Strip - Thin (for backup when you cut the seals)

 (3)  
Pan - Drip

 (4)  
Wrench - Torque; 1/2" drive, calibrated in lb-ft

 (5)  
Gun - Semco, sealant

 (6)  
Bottle - Propylethylene, squirt (for the alcohol-distilled water solution)

 (7)  
Spatula - Wooden or plastic (for the removal and application of sealant)

 (8)  
Wooden Blocks - two of the same dimension (for the installation of the lower bearing into the outer cylinder)

 (9)  
Brush - Small (for the application of primer)

 (10)
 Cloth - Pieces of new or cleaned, white; with less than 0.75% oil (carbon tetrachloride extraction) and free from silicone

 (11)
 Pads - Cloth (for the protection of the shock strut when you remove the gland nut)

 Wrench - Crow's Foot
