 WARNING: YOU MUST FULLY DEFLATE THE SHOCK STRUT BEFORE YOU REMOVE
_______ THE VALVE BODY. INTERNAL PRESSURE CAN BLOW THE VALVE BODY OUT IF YOU DO NOT FULLY DEFLATE THE SHOCK STRUT FIRST. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 WARNING:_______YOU MUST KEEP THE CHARGING VALVE OPEN. INTERNAL PRESSURE CAN BLOW THE LOOSENED GLAND NUT OUT IF YOU DO NOT KEEP THE CHARGING VALVE OPEN. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURIES TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (3)  Remove the cap from the charging valve on top of the shock strut to deflate the shock strut (Ref 12-15-41/301).
 NOTE: Loosen the outer hexnut a maximum of two turns.

 NOTE: The fluid in the shock strut will start to foam as you
____ decrease the pressure to ambient pressure. Slowly deflate the shock strut to prevent loss of fluid through the valve.

 (4)  Remove the fillet of sealant from the top of the gland nut and the outer cylinder.
 NOTE: Use toluene to make the sealant soft and a plastic or
____ wooden spatula to remove it. You must remove the old sealant before you apply primer to the area and install the gland nut.

Remove the ground lock from the lock brace assembly of the nose landing gear (Ref 32-00-01/201).

Move the control handle for the landing gear to OFF.


 NOTE: This will release the hydraulic pressure from the lock

 actuator of the nose landing gear.

Release the lock link assembly.

 (a)  
Put a wood strip (of correct length and sufficient strength) between the top of the attachment lug for the lower drag brace (on the shock strut) and the bottom of the arm for the lock brace assembly.


 NOTE: Put the top of the strip as far aft on the arm as

 possible.

 NOTE: The forward end of the lock brace arm is lower than
____ the aft end. When you hit the top of the wood strip forward, the strip will lift the hinge of the lock brace assembly to an overcenter position and release the assembly.
 (b)  Hit the top of the wood strip forward to release the lock brace assembly.

 (4) Put cloth pads around the inner cylinder below the gland nut (8).
 NOTE:____Do this to prevent damage to the inner cylinder. If the gland nut moves down the inner cylinder, the sharp edges of the gland nut will cause damage to the inner cylinder.

 (5)  Put a drip pan below the nose gear to catch hydraulic fluid when you remove the gland nut.

Remove the gland nut lock (18) from the aft side of the shock strut.

Use the pin spanner adapter assembly to loosen the gland nut.


 NOTE: Move the gland nut to the bottom of the inner cylinder after
