Prepare to Examine the Torsional Free Play
S 866-018
(1)
Remove the pressure from the hydraulic systems A and B
(AMM 29-15-00/201).
S 866-019
(2)
Lift the nose of airplane with jacks until the shock strut is fully extended (AMM 07-11-21/201).
S 026-020
WARNING: MAKE SURE YOU DEFLATE THE SHOCK STRUT COMPLETELY BEFORE YOU
_______ LOOSEN THE VALVE BODY. THE AIR PRESSURE CAN BLOW THE VALVE BODY OUT WHICH CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
(3) Slowly open the air valve at the top of the shock strut and deflate the shock strut.
NOTE: The fluid in the shock strut will immediately start to
____ bubble when you decrease the pressure to ambient. Deflate the shock strut slowly to prevent the fluid from leaking out of the air valve.
S 866-021
(4)
Lift the inner cylinder of the nose landing gear with the axle jack until approximately 4 inches of the chrome surface on the inner cylinder remains.
S 436-022
(5)
Install the actuator rod clamps on the two actuator rods of the steering cylinders for nose landing gear.
(a)
Set the clamps tightly against the actuator end plates to prevent all movement of the actuator rod.
S 486-046
(6) Set the dial indicator gage on the platform to read the front and the aft motion of the right wheel rim.
NOTE: The gage must be installed on the forward side of the wheel
____ on the axle centerline as near to the outboard edge of the rim as possible.
S 496-023
(7) Put in the wood 2 x 6 between the wheels.
