 (b)  Remove the nut, the thrust bearing (21), the bushing (21A), and the apex bolt.
 NOTE: It is possible to remove the thin washers between the
____ torsion links after the removal of the apex bolt.

Disconnect the upper torsion link (3) from the steering collar:

 (a)  
Remove the cotter pins, nuts, and the washers from the retaining pin (33).

 (b)  
Remove the retaining pin (33) from the pin (31).

 (c)  
Remove the end caps (32) on each end of the pin (31).

 (d)  
Hold the upper torsion link (3).

 (e)  
Remove the pin (31) to disconnect the upper torsion link (3) from the steering collar on the outer cylinder (1).

 (f)  
Remove the upper torsion link (3) from the airplane.

Disconnect the lower torsion link (10) from the inner cylinder (6):

 (a)  
Remove the cotter pins, nuts, and the washers from the retaining pin (33).

 (b)  
Remove the retaining pin (33) from the pin (31).

 (c)  
Remove the end caps (32) on each end of the pin (31).

 (d)  
Hold the lower torsion link (10).

 (e)  
Remove the pin (31) to disconnect the lower torsion link (10) from the inner cylinder (6).

 (f)  
Remove the lower torsion link (10) from the airplane.

 (1) Clean all bolts, pins, nuts, washers, and surfaces that connected.
 NOTE: In subsequent instructions use Mastinox 6856K as an
____ alternative to Corrosion preventive compound.

Examine the parts for approved wear limits (AMM 32-21-31/601).

 (3)  
Install the target support and target assembly on the bottom of the upper torsion link.

 (a)  
Put the target support on the bottom of the upper torsion link as shown in Fig. 402.

 (b)  
Do the step below if no holes are in the torsion link.

 1)  Drill 5/32-inch full size holes in the upper torsion link through the holes on the target support.
