(12) Remove the active static-seal O-ring (17) and the backup rings (1) from the outer groove in the lower centering cam.
NOTE: Use a plastic tool for this to prevent damage to the cam.
____
S 028-064
CAUTION:_______ YOU MUST BE VERY CAREFUL NOT TO CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE INNER
CYLINDER. NICKS OR SCRATCHES ON THE INNER CYLINDER WILL CAUSE
DAMAGE TO THE CENTERING CAM AND THE SEALS. THIS DAMAGE WILL
OCCUR AS THE SEALS MOVE OVER THE DAMAGED SURFACE OF THE INNER
CYLINDER.
(13)
Remove the active dynamic-seal assembly (16) from the inner cylinder.
S 648-021
(14)
Lubricate all the new seals and backup rings with a layer of hydraulic fluid and petrolatum.
S 428-079
(15)
Carefully pull the spare static-seal O-ring (4) and spare dynamic-seal assembly (5) over and down the inner cylinder.
S 428-065
(16)
Put the spare static-seal O-ring (4) and spare dynamic-seal assembly (5) in the correct grooves in the lower bearing.
S 428-023
(17)
Carefully pull the new active dynamic-seal assembly (16) over and down the inner cylinder to a position above the lower bearing (6).
(a)
Install the HATSEAL II or RSA active dynamic-seal assemblies.
1) Clean and lubricate the parts which must be assembled (the inner diameter at the lower centering cam and the outer diameter of the inner cylinder's chrome area).
2) Secure the inner cylinder in a horizontal position at approximately waist height. 3) Put the cam ring and the seal ring on the chrome area of the inner cylinder. 4) Put the elastomer on the tapered area of the inner cylinder (Fig. 801 Sheet 2, Detail A). 5) Put the lower centering cam on the tapered area of the inner cylinder. 6) Use your fingers or a blunt tool to push the elastomer into the lower centering cam (Fig. 801 Sheet 2, Detail A).
