 AUTOTHROTTLE SYSTEM - TROUBLE SHOOTING

 1.  General
_______
 A.  Malfunctions or failures of the A/T system can be identified by the FMS BITE (Built-In Test Equipment) procedures, contained in Chapter 22. FMS BITE includes procedures for the FMCS, DFCS, A/T, IRS, and EFIS (if applicable).
 B.  If malfunctions or failures are thought to be related to the mechanical mechanisms of the A/T system, the trouble shooting chart in Para. 3 can be used.
 C.  The FMS BITE is started and controlled through the FMCS CDU. The CDU acts as the focal flight deck control and display for actuating and evaluating FMCS, DFCS, A/T, IRS, and EFIS BITE (if applicable), (Ref 22-01, FMS BITE - D&O). Once the test has been started from the CDU, the system under test will transmit plain text messages for display on the CDU. In response to the messages, you can set the flight deck controls, and/or do the data entries through the CDU. Test complete or failure is shown on the CDU display.
 2.  Trouble Shoot A/T System Using A/T BITE

 A.  Do the A/T BITE trouble shooting per 22-04, A/T BITE - T/S.
 NOTE: The trouble shooting procedures for FMCS, DFCS, IRS, and EFIS

 IRS BITE - T/S, 22-05
 EFIS BITE - T/S, 22-07

 B.  At the end of all the BITE tests, push the INIT/REF key on the CDU to go out of the BITE.
 C.  The A/T system may disengage when electrical power is transferred after a flight where the autopilot or flight director was used during landing. This condition is normal, and no maintenance action is required. You can reset the A/T warning light by pushing the A/T warning light, or by pushing the A/T engage (ARM) switch.
