(6) Indicator Functions
(a) Indicator Controls (Fig. 3)
1) The weather radar system indicator unit is a high resolution color indicator which displays weather, operating mode, and fault information on a 5-inch CRT. The CRT uses an X-Y raster scan.
2) The indicator provides a color display of weather and ground targets within the area scanned by the radar antenna. Blue range arcs appear as evenly spaced concentric circles on the X-Y raster to assist in determining range of the targets. A 32-bit serial word is sent to the associated video processor in the R/T unit on the ARINC 429 control bus. After processing, the video processor sends the indicator the appropriate video data on the ARINC 453 data bus.
3) The indicator control panel contains a rotary range selector switch and a brightness control. The functions of the switch and control are as follows:
EFFECTIVITY
AF 121, 122; SN 351-399 CONFIG 3 02 Page 24 Apr 25/9834-43-00
a) SN 351-399; Range switch - Allows selection of 10, 20, 40, 80, 160, or 320-mile operating ranges for display on the indicator. The 32-bit serial control range data is sent through the indicator A/D converter, microprocessor and ARINC 429 control bus No. 1 to receiver/transmitter No. 1 and 2. Control bus No. 2 from the first officer's indicator transmits range data to R/T No. 1 and 2. The range switch on the captains indicator and first officers indicator in the off position turns off the weather radar system and prevents transmission of RF energy. In any range position on the captain's or first officer's indicator a control panel enable ground signal is sent to the control panel.
b) AF 121, 122; Range switch - Allows selection of 15, 30, 60, 120, or 240 mile operating ranges for display on the indicator. The 32-bit serial control range data is sent through the indicator A/D converter, microprocessor and ARINC 429 control bus No. 1 to receiver/transmitter No. 1 and
2. Control bus No. 2 from the first officer's indicator transmits range data to R/T No. 1 or 2.
c) BRT (brightness) control knob - Varies the intensity of video on the display.
(b) Indicator Alphanumerics Displays (Fig. 4)
1) The indicator generates alphanumeric messages which are displayed in fields A through H as shown in Fig. 4. The different messages displayed are as follows: a) RNG XXX - Selected range is displayed, in blue
characters, in the upper left corner of the CRT.
b) MRK XX - Range mark interval for selected range is displayed, in blue characters, in the upper right corner of the CRT.
c) AF 121, 122; SN 351; TEST, WX or MAP - Selected mode of operation is displayed, in blue characters, directly below the selected range display.
d) On SN 352-399, TEST, WX, TURB, or MAP - Selected mode of operation is displayed, in blue characters, directly below the selected range display.
e) XX.X () - Amount of antenna tilt selected and direction of tilt, an arrow pointing either up or down, is displayed in blue characters, directly below the range mark interval.
f) STAB - Message is displayed in yellow replacing the antenna message when a stabilization failure occurs. g) COOL - Displayed, in yellow characters directly below selected mode, when R/T experiences a cooling fault.
