 A.  Check that electrical power is removed from airplane (Ref 24-22-00).
 WARNING: REMOVE POWER FROM AIRPLANE PRIOR TO OPENING DOORS ON PANEL P14

 OR EXPOSED HOT BUS COULD INJURE PERSONNEL.

 B.  Open left side of left main power center panel P14.
 NOTE: INS 3 power transfer relay is located in back of the circuit

 breakers installed in panel P14.

 C.  Remove retaining screws and pull relay out of socket.
 4.  Install INS 3 Power Transfer Relay (Fig 401)

 A.  Insert relay into socket and secure with retaining screws.
 B.  Close door on left main power center panel P14.
 C.  After installing relay, test by performing INS 3 power transfer relay test (Ref 34-41-13, INS 3 Power Transfer Relay - Adjustment/Test).

 INS 3 POWER TRANSFER RELAY - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

 1. INS 3 Power Transfer Relay Test
_______________________________
 A. General
 (1)  The INS 3 power transfer relay is used to switch INS No. 3 to the essential flight instrument (fail op) bus when INS No. 3 is used to replace INS No. 1 and to radio bus No. 2 when INS No. 3 is used to replace INS No. 2. The following test verifies the proper operation of the INS 3 power transfer relay.
 B. Referenced Procedures
 (1)
21-58-00, Equipment Cooling - Adjustment/Test (Operational Test)

 (2)
24-22-00, Manual Control - Maintenance Practices (Apply Power)


 C. Prepare for Test
 (1)  
Set mode selector switch on each INS mode selector unit in pilots' overhead panel P5 to OFF position.

 (2)  
Provide electrical power. Refer to 24-22-00.

 (3)  
Provide cooling air to INS equipment. Refer to 21-58-00.


 CAUTION: ENSURE THAT COOLING AIR IS AVAILABLE TO NAVIGATION UNITS
_______ BEFORE OPERATING INS. FAILURE TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE AIR SUPPLY WILL RESULT IN FAILURE OF NAVIGATION UNITS.
 (4)  Close all INS 3 circuit breakers on electronic circuit breaker panel P7 (or P126).
 D. Test INS 3 power transfer relay.
 (1)  
Set INS No. 3 mode selector switch (pilots' overhead panel P5) to STBY.

 (2)  
Set captain's ATT/COMP STAB switch to CAPT 1-F/O 2.

 (3)  
Open both PWR-ALT INS 3 circuit breakers on panel P7.

 (4)  
Check that BATT light on INS No. 3 CDU is off.

 (5)  
Set captain's ATT/COMP STAB switch to CAPT 1-F/O 3.

 (6)  
Check that BATT light on INS No. 3 CDU comes on.

 (7)  
Close both PWR-ALT INS 3 circuit breakers on panel P7.

 (8)  
Check that BATT light on INS No. 3 CDU goes off.

 (9)  
Set captain's ATT/COMP STAB switch to CAPT 1-F/O 2.


 E. Restore Airplane to Normal
 (1)  Set each INS mode selector switch to OFF position.
 CAUTION: FAILURE TO MOVE MODE SELECTOR TO OFF WILL CAUSE INS TO
_______ AUTOMATICALLY SWITCH TO BATTERY POWER AND A WARNING HORN IN NOSE WHEEL WELL TO ACTUATE 30 (| 10) SECONDS AFTER POWER IS REMOVED FROM AIRPLANE.
 (2)  
Remove electrical power if no longer required. Refer to 24-22-00.

 (3)  
Remove equipment cooling if no longer required. Refer to 21-58-00.

 INS BATTERY WARNING LOGIC MODULE - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General
_______
 A.  The INS battery warning logic module activates a ground crew call horn, located in the nose wheel well, 30 (| 10) seconds after the INS transfers to battery power with the airplane sitting on the ground. This battery warning logic module is installed on the back of the inertial navigation equipment mounting rack. It is attached to this rack with three machine screws and has a single electrical cable attached.
