INS BATTERY WARNING LOGIC MODULE - ADJUSTMENT/TEST
__________________________________________________
1. INS Battery Warning Logic Module Test
_____________________________________
A. General
(1) The INS battery warning logic module alerts the ground crew if power is removed from the airplane without first turning off all INS systems. This test verifies that the ground crew call horn (in the nose wheel well) will be activated 30 (| 10) seconds after any INS system switches to battery power due to loss of its primary 115-volt ac power source.
NOTE: On airplanes AF 112-115, 151, plus airplanes incorporating
____ SB 32-2141, the ground crew call horn will sound if the INS circuit breakers are opened but will not sound if power is removed from the airplane.
On AF 116-150, 152-199; LH 011-030, 051-070, 082-099; AZ 221-299; IB 406-499; MD 501-599; GN 601-699; AT 701-750; VM 751-799; plus airplanes incorporating SB 34-2080, the ground safety relay is bypassed and the ground crew call horn will sound if the INS is left operating when power is removed from the airplane.
B. Referenced Procedures
(1)
21-58-00, Equipment Cooling - Adjustment/Test (Operational Test)
(2)
24-22-00, Manual Control - Maintenance Practices (Apply Power)
C. Prepare for Test
(1)
Set mode selector switch on each INS mode selector unit in pilots' overhead panel P5 to OFF position.
(2)
Provide electrical power. Refer to 24-22-00.
(3)
Provide cooling air to INS equipment. Refer to 21-58-00.
CAUTION: ENSURE THAT COOLING AIR IS AVAILABLE TO NAVIGATION UNITS
_______ BEFORE OPERATING INS. FAILURE TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE AIR SUPPLY WILL RESULT IN FAILURE OF NAVIGATION UNITS.
(4) Close all PWR-INS 1, PWR-INS 2 and PWR-INS 3 circuit breakers on electronic circuit breaker panel P7 (or P126).
D. Test INS Battery Warning Logic Module
(1)
Set MSU No. 1, 2 and 3 mode selector switches to STBY.
(2)
Open 10 amp PWR-INS 1 circuit breaker and verify that:
(a)
No. 1 INS CDU BAT light illuminates.
(b)
Warning alarm sounds 30 (| 10) seconds after the circuit breaker is opened.
(3)
Close 10 amp PWR-INS 1 circuit breaker and verify that the warning alarm ceases.
(4)
Open 10 amp PWR-INS 2 circuit breaker and verify that:
(a)
No. 2 INS CDU BAT light illuminates.
(b)
Warning alarm sounds 30 (| 10) seconds after the circuit breaker is opened.
