 XA  1) Position No. 1 INS CDU display selector switch to DIS/TIME.
 XA  2) Press and hold No. 1 INS CDU TEST switch. Check INS
 XA  UPDATING 1 annunciators, on P1 and P3 change from black to
 XA  green.
 XA  3) Release TEST switch.
 XA  (f) Test INS 1/DME 1 interface.
 XA  1) Press WY PT CHG key until it lights. Check INSERT key
 XA  lights.
 XA  2) Key 99 and press INSERT key. Check FROM-TO display shows
 XA  99.
 XA  3) Position display selector switch to WAY PT.
 XA  4) Rotate thumb wheel switch to 0.
 XA  5) Enter N, 3, 7, 4. Check left display shows 0374.
 XA  6) Press INSERT key. INSERT light goes out.
 XA  7) Check left and right displays show 0374.
 XA  8) On captain's VHF NAV control panel, select local VOR/DME
 XA  frequency or DME test set frequency.
 XA
 XA  NOTE: If DME test set is used, adjust it on 100 NM range.____

 XA  9) On VOR/DME 1 indicator, check appropriate distance display.
 XA  10) Position display selector switch to DIS/TIME.

 XA 11) Retain values displayed on VOR/DME 1 indicator and CDU and XA compare them. XA XA NOTE:____Value shown on VOR/DME indicator is in decimal XA basis. XA Value shown on CDU is in octal basis. XA To compare these values it is necessary to apply XA following formula: XA A10 = (DME distance x 75.96) + 307, where A is given XA in base 10. XA Transform A base 10 (A10) to A base 8 (A8). XA Compare A8 with value retained on CDU XA (Tolerance |10-8). XA XA Example: DME distance: 5 NM XA A10 = (5 x 75.96) + 307 = 687 XA A8 = 1257 XA CDU display must be 1257 |10 XA XA ~ê XA   CDU  XA  DME indicatorèê. XA 4) FROM-TO and data displays return to normal. XA (h) Repeat steps (e) to (g) substituting INS 2 for INS 1, No. 2 INS XA CDU for No. 1 INS CDU, INS UPDATING 2 annunciators for INS XA UPDATING 1 annunciators and DME 2 circuit breaker for DME 1 XA circuit breaker. XA (i) If the INS is no longer required, restore airplane to normal.

 (1)  Place each INS mode selector switch in OFF position.
 CAUTION:_______ FAILURE TO MOVE MODE SELECTOR TO OFF WILL CAUSE INS TO AUTOMATICALLY SWITCH TO BATTERY POWER AND A WARNING HORN IN NOSE WHEEL WELL TO ACTUATE 30 (| 10) SECONDS AFTER POWER IS REMOVED FROM AIRPLANE.
 (2) (3)  Remove electrical power if no longer required. Refer to 24-22-00.Remove equipment cooling if no longer required. Refer to 21-58-00.

 1. Operational Test - Inertial Navigation System

 A. General
 (1)  The INS operational test is similar to the preflight procedure used to prepare an INS for flight. This requires that exact aircraft present position and intended waypoint latitude and longitude be known. The procedure is identical for each individual INS undergoing test. This test requires no special tools.
