Malfunction code 54 is set when the INS is under PMS waypoint control, and a control word is not received from the PMS; or if a flight leg is commanded by the PMS, but a FROM/TO waypoint is not received from the PMS. When this malfunction code is set the INS automatically reverts to INS waypoint control.


 NOTE: If malfunction code 54 occurs at a ground speed greater than
____ 75 knots, the INS cannot be returned to PMS waypoint control (PMS lockout), until the INS is down moded to STBY, or turned OFF and then turned on.
 If malfunction code 54 occurs at ground speeds less than 75 knots the INS can be returned to PMS waypoint control without down moding the INS.
 (3)  Malfunction code 55 is set when the INS automatically reverts to INS waypoint control, and a TO waypoint is not found in the INS to match the TO waypoint being flown.
 C. Semipermanent Malfunction Record Display
 (1)  Codes for all malfunctions and out-of-tolerance conditions detected by the DCU are semipermanently recorded for display as they occur. The DCU erases this record and starts a new record each time fine alignment (PI=6) is started. The following steps describe the procedure for interrogating the DCU to display codes for all malfunctions, including intermittent out-of-tolerance conditions, which have been detected by the DCU since the last time fine alignment was started.
 CAUTION: THE MSU MODE SELECT SWITCH SHOULD BE IN STBY WHEN
_______ DISPLAYING THE SEMIPERMANENT MALFUNCTION RECORD; OTHERWISE, FINE ALIGNMENT OF THE SYSTEM WILL TAKE PLACE AND ERASE THE MEMORY.
 (a)  
Place data selector switch in DSRTK/STS position. Observe actual performance index number and desired performance index number in right-hand data display.

 (b)  
Simultaneously press and hold TEST switch and HOLD key. Observe all eights in data displays and FROM-TO display and all lamps and keys lighted.

 (c)  
Release TEST switch and HOLD key. Observe that malfunction code (12 through 63) appears in right-hand data display.

 (d)  Press and release TEST switch in sequence and record all malfunction codes until malfunction code display goes blank or reverts to an action code display (01 through 06). Refer to figure 101 for recommended action.
 NOTE: The semipermanent malfunction record display can be
____ repeated by rotating the DSS out of the DSRTK/STS position, then back into DSRTK/STS and repeating steps
 (b) through (d).
 (e)  If entry to the malfunction code analysis procedure was from a flight squawk, perform an operational test. If entry was from the trouble tree, repeat the step at which the malfunction occurred and complete the remaining steps on the trouble tree.
