INS BATTERY TRANSFER RELAY - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
_________________________________________________
 1.  General
_______
 A.  The INS battery transfer relay is located in covered panel P123 on the forward side of bulkhead 400 in the right nose wheel well crawlway (access through the main electronic equipment center).
 B.  During relay removal or installation, the INS BAT PARALLEL switch (flight engineer's panel, P4) must be in the NORMAL position and the mode select switch (pilots' overhead panel, P5) for INS 1 and 3 must be in the OFF position. Prior to removal, open circuit breaker on front panel of INS batteries 1 and 3 and close after installation.
 C.  After installation test per transfer relay operational test. (Refer to 34-41-11, INS Battery Transfer Relay - Adjustment/Test.)

21-58-00, Equipment Cooling - Adjustment/Test (Operating Test)

 (3)
24-33-00, DC Standby Power System - Description and Operation (Control)

 B. Prepare for Test
 (1)
On mode selector units for INS 1 and INS 3 (pilots' overhead panel P5), place mode selector switch in OFF position.

 (2)
Set STANDBY POWER switch (on flight engineer's P4 panel) to MANUAL ON position.

 (3)
On flight engineer's panel P4, set INS BAT PARALLEL switch to NORMAL position.

 (4)
Apply aircraft power (Ref 24-22-00).

 (5)
Supply equipment cooling (Ref 21-58-00).

CAUTION: ENSURE THAT COOLING AIR IS AVAILABLE TO NAVIGATION
_______ UNITS BEFORE OPERATING INS. FAILURE TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE AIR SUPPLY WILL RESULT IN FAILURE OF NAVIGATION UNITS.
 (6)
Ensure inertial navigation systems 1 and 3 have battery, navigation, control/display and mode selector units properly installed.

 (7)
Close both pair of power circuit breakers (PWR-INS 1 for system 1, PWR-INS 3 for system 3) on electronic circuit breaker panel P7 (or P126).

 (8)
On airplanes with PMS, when the INS is in the PMS waypoint control mode; control of the INS is through the PMS CDU, and the INS CDU operates only as a display unit. To operate the INS totally independent of the PMS, open the PMS circuit breakers (Ref 34-62).

 (9)
On ATLAS ALL EXCEPT AT 701-750, set ATT/COMP STAB switch on the captain's main instrument panel to CAPT 1 - F/O 2 position. On AT 701-750, set ATTITUDE switch on captain's main instrument panel to NORM.

 (10)
Close circuit breaker on front panel of INS battery units 1 and 3.

 C. Test Battery Transfer Relay
 (1)  Turn on check and lamp test (AIRPLANES WITH DELCO INS)
 (a)  Set mode selector switches on mode selector units 1 and 3 to STBY position. Check that on CDU 1 and 3 and MSU 1 and 3: 1) Red, amber and green lamps do not illuminate.
NOTE: Some lights, including the red WARN light and green
