WARNING:  THIS TEST IS ACCOMPLISHED WITH THE "TEST" (NON-RADIATING) MODE SELECTED ON THE WEATHER RADAR CONTROL PANEL. DO NOT SELECT OTHER OPERATING MODES UNLESS THE "GND (GROUND) TEST/NORMAL" SWITCH IS IN "GND (GROUND) TEST" POSITION, OR ALL OTHER CONDITIONS ARE SAFE FOR TRANSMITTING FROM THE RADAR ANTENNA. REFER TO PRECAUTIONS IN PAR. 2.
At control panel select R/T 1, GAIN in NORMAL, and select TEST mode. Observe that R/T and ANT fault lamps on control panel come on. IF -

 J.  When warmup period in standby mode is completed, select TEST mode. A test pattern should appear on the indicators in less than a minute and will be suitable for control adjustment for comparison to Fig. 101 in approximately a minute.
 K.  Set all intensity, brilliance, or brightness controls on the indicators to mid-position, then follow procedures in the troubleshooting chart to attain proper indications on the test pattern and to isolate malfunctions.
 L.  Use the following information in association with the procedures in the trouble shooting chart when the test pattern is observed. Also, selecting the alternate system when a trouble is encountered in the system in use will aid confirmation of faults to a particular LRU.
 (1)
Absence of the far targetsd may indicate a poor VSWR in the antenna and waveguide components. Make a visual check of these components for physical damage and/or perform VSWR test to confirm high VSWR when troubleshooting procedures in chart do not reveal malfunctioning LRU.
