Test battery unit/navigation unit interface. 1) Open circuit breaker on front panel of each INS battery unit. 2) Set mode selector switch on each MSU (mode selector unit on P5 panel) to STBY position. 3) Verify that INS does not turn on by observing that CDU


 annunciators and digital displays do not illuminate.
 4)  Set mode selector switch on each MSU to OFF position.
 5)  Close circuit breaker on front panel of each INS battery
 unit.
 6)  Set mode selector switch on each MSU to STBY position. Verify that: a) Red, amber and green lamps do not illuminate. b) Left, right and FROM/TO displays are illuminated. c) Numerals 0 0 appear in FROM/TO display.
 7)  Place data selector to DSR TK/STS and check that right-hand data display is 90. 8) Display Test a) Set the WPT switch on each CDU to any position except
 0. b) Place the data selector on each CDU to TEST. c) On each mode selector unit press the READY NAV and
 BATT annunciators. Verify that READY NAV annunciator illuminates green and BATT annunciator illuminates red.
 d)  Check that the ALERT, BATT and WARN lamps on each CDU illuminate.
 e)  Numerals 88.88.8 N/S are displayed in each CDU left-hand data display (N S symbols are superimposed on one another).
 f)  Numerals R88.88.8 E/W are displayed in each CDU right-hand data display (E W symbols are superimposed on one another).
 g)  Numerals 8 8 are displayed in each CDU FROM/TO display.
 (d)  Test battery operation warning system.
 1)  Open two 115-volt ac power circuit breakers to the INS being tested (PWR-INS 1 for system 1, PWR-INS 2 for system 2 or PWR-INS 3 for system 3). Observe that BAT light on appropriate CDU illuminates and nose wheel well call horn sounds a warning 30 (| 10) seconds after circuit breakers open.

 2) Close two circuit breakers opened in step 1) and verify that warning alarm ceases. 3) Repeat battery warning system test for remaining INS systems.
 (e)  
Test INS navigation unit battery charger.

 1)  Perform INS battery charger test on each of the inertial navigation systems. Refer to 34-41-03, INS Navigation Unit - Adjustment/Test (Battery Charger Test).

 (f)
If INS is no longer required, restore airplane to normal.


 (2)  
Test INS Battery Transfer Relay

 (a)  
If required, prepare for test as described in paragraph D.

 (b)  
Set mode selector switch on each MSU on pilots' overhead panel P5 to OFF position.

 (c)  
Open circuit breaker on front of INS No. 1 battery unit.

 (d)  
Set STANDBY POWER switch on flight engineer's panel P4 to the ON position.

 (e)  
Set INS BAT PARALLEL switch on flight engineer's panel P4 to NORMAL position.

 (f)  
Set INS No. 1 mode selector switch to STBY.

 (g)  
Verify that INS No. 1 CDU annunciators and digital displays do not illuminate.

 (h)  
Set INS BAT PARALLEL switch to ON.

 (i)  
Verify that on INS No. 1 CDU: left, right and FROM/TO displays illuminate.

 (j)  
Return INS No. 1 mode selector switch to OFF.

 (k)  
Return INS BAT PARALLEL switch to NORMAL.

 (l)  
Return STANDBY POWER switch to OFF.

 (m)  
Close circuit breaker on front of INS No. 1 battery unit.

 (n)  
If INS is no longer required, restore airplane to normal.

 

 (3)  
Test Navigation Unit and Control Display Unit Interface.

 (a)  
If required, prepare for test as described in paragraph D.

 (b)  
Initial Turn-On and Program Number Check 1) Set mode selector switch on each MSU to OFF. 2) Place the mode selector switch on each MSU to STBY. 3) Verify on each control display unit that the AUTO/MAN/RMT

 


 switch is in the MAN position.
 4)  On each CDU place the data selector to POS and check that: a) Red, amber and green lamps do not illuminate. b) FROM/TO display is 0 0. c) INSERT pushbutton illuminates. d) On airplanes with INS program 72-28-0, left-hand data
 display is all Zeros and an N.
 e)  On airplanes with INS program 72-28-0, program number 72 28 is displayed in the right-hand data display. For the complete program number 0 is displayed in the right-hand display when the HOLD pushbutton is pressed.
