Receiver/Transmitter Antenna System Monitoring Functions


 1)  Weather radar system monitoring circuits in the R/T consist of performance monitoring hardware and built-in test equipment (BITE) software. The performance monitor continuously checks for proper transmitter power output and proper receiver operation. If either the transmitter or receiver is operating improperly, fault messages will be displayed on the indicators. The weather radar internal BITE continually checks for proper operation of the control panel and antenna and valid INS attitude input data to the receiver/transmitter. In addition serial data control bus inputs to the receiver/transmitter are checked.

 (o)  
Input/output circuits provide the electrical interface circuitry for most of the receiver/transmitter rear connector signals. Many of these are routed through the central processing unit. Input/output circuits interface three ARINC 429 13-KHz serial data control bus inputs, two 100-KHz ARINC 429 serial data attitude bus inputs, and two 1-MHz data bus outputs. Several discretes input are used, including the antenna feedback signals (elevation and scan monitors) and installation program pins.

The overtemperature fault indicator on the front panel of the R/T monitors the cooling provided by the electrical/electronic cooling system at the R/T mount for the receiver/transmitters.


 (14) Indicator Control Functions (Fig. 3)
 (a)  
The weather radar system indicator unit is a high resolution color indicator which displays weather, operating mode, and fault information on a 5-inch CRT. The CRT uses an X-Y raster scan.

 (b)  
R/T data bus No. 1 from R/T 1 enter the indicators on pins 5 and 6 to be processed by the manchester receiver. The manchester receiver accepts ARINC 453 data bus inputs from R/T No. 1 or R/T No. 2. The manchester receiver extracts the beginning of word sync (BWS), the end of word sync (EWS), the data, and the clock for use by the control and data word buffers.
