 ATTITUDE DIRECTOR INDICATOR - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION
__________________________________________________
 1.  General_______
 A.  Two attitude director indicators (ADI) are installed in the airplane, one on each pilot's instrument panel. Each ADI has an individual instrument clamp attached to the rear of the flight instrument panel behind the panel cutout. The ADI slips through the cutout and into the clamp from the front of the panel. The clamp constricts around the instrument, holding it in place, as clamp adjusting screws on the front of the panel are tightened. Each ADI has two electrical cables attached to the rear of the unit through two quick-disconnect connectors.
 2.  Remove Attitude Director Indicator__________________________________(See figure 401.)
 A.  Open ADI 1 and ADI 2 circuit breakers on electronic circuit breaker panel P7 (or P126).
NOTE:____Only one ADI should be removed at a time. When removed ADI is reinstalled, its inclinometer is adjusted to match the roll attitude indicated by the inclinometer of the ADI that was left in place.
If both ADI's have to be removed at the same time, or if inclinometer adjustments on both ADI's are in doubt, it is necessary to level the airplane and then adjust both inclinometers to mid position. (Ref 8-00-00, Airplane, Maintenance Practices (Leveling and Weighing.)
 B.  Loosen upper right and lower left (ADI clamp adjusting) screws.
NOTE:____Do not loosen upper left or lower right (mounting) screws. These screws hold the ADI clamp in place behind the instrument panel.
 C.  Press on clamp adjusting screws to loosen clamp.
 D.  Pull ADI out from instrument panel.
 E.  Remove two quick-disconnect electrical cable connectors on back of ADI.
 3.  Install Attitude Director Indicator___________________________________(See figure 401.)
 A.  Connect two electrical cables to the rear of ADI.
 B.  Insert ADI through cutout and into clamp at rear of instrument panel.
 C.  Tighten upper right and lower left (ADI clamp adjusting) screws.
 D.  Check that inclinometer balls on both ADI's are in the same relative position.
 E.  If required, adjust inclinometer on ADI being installed.
 (1)
Loosen inclinometer adjustment screws.

 (2)
Adjust inclinometer to agree with inclinometer on ADI that was left in place.

 (3)
Tighten inclinometer adjustment screws.

 F.  Close ADI 1 and ADI 2 circuit breakers on electronic circuit breaker panel P7 (or P126).
 G.  After installing ADI, test instrument by performing ADI test. (Refer to 34-41-05, Attitude Director Indicator - Adjustment/Test.)

 1. Attitude Director Indicator Test
________________________________
 A. General
 (1)  Two attitude director indicators (ADI) are installed in the airplane, one on each pilot's instrument panel. Each ADI is electrically connected by two connectors in the rear of the unit. This test provides a rapid check to verify that both electrical cables are properly connected to the ADI.

 C. Prepare for Test
 (1)
Set mode selector switch on each INS mode selector unit in pilots' overhead panel P5 to OFF position.

 (2)
Provide electrical power. Refer to 24-22-00.

 (3)
Provide cooling air to INS equipment. Refer to 21-58-00.

CAUTION: ENSURE THAT COOLING AIR IS AVAILABLE TO NAVIGATION UNITS
_______ BEFORE OPERATING INS. FAILURE TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE AIR SUPPLY WILL RESULT IN FAILURE OF NAVIGATION UNITS.
 (4)  Close all INS, ADI and FLT INST SW RELAYS circuit breaker on electronic circuit breaker panels P7 (or P126).
