Remove panel assembly from MSU.

Ensure that replacement panel assembly is right way up, then place over switch shaft.

Using fingers or 3/16-inch wide screwdriver, connect edge lighting plug to panel assembly plug, then lock clips.

Push panel assembly flush against front of MSU and align screw holes in panel assembly with matching holes in CDU.
(10)
Install screw assemblies and tighten firmly, or using a torque screwdriver, tighten to 4.7 inch-pounds maximum.
CAUTION: DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN THE SCREW ASSEMBLIES BECAUSE THE PANEL

Install mode selector knob on switch shaft.

Tighten setscrews with hex key.
6. Test MSU Lamps
______________
A. Provide instrument panel lighting power (33-11-00).
B. Check that illuminated panel lights on the MSU when panel lighting power is applied to pilots' overhead panel.
C. Vary intensity of pilots' overhead panel lighting and observe that illuminated panel varies accordingly.
D. On MSU, check that mode selector switch is in any "on" position.
E. On airplanes with Delco INS, set the appropriate CDU data selector switch to the DSRTK/STS position.
F. On airplanes with Delco INS, momentarily press the CDU TEST switch and observe that both annunciator lamps (on associated MSU) illuminate.
G. On airplanes with Litton INS, momentarily press the READY NAV/BATT annunciator cap and observe that both annunciator lamps illuminate.
H. If INS is no longer needed, set mode selector switch to OFF and restore airplane to normal.

INS MODE SELECTOR UNIT - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
_______
A. The INS mode selector units (MSU) are located on the flight deck in the pilots' overhead panel (P5). Each unit is held in place by two quick-release fasteners and has one electrical cable attached to the rear panel through a connector.
NOTE: The MSU individual lamps and illuminated panel may be replaced
____ while the INS is operating, without affecting system operation. Use 34-41-01, Mode Selector Unit - Servicing (Relamping).
B. Prior to unit removal; 1) set mode selector switch (on appropriate mode selector unit) and MAIN PANEL - OVHD control (pilots' overhead panel, P5) to OFF position and 2) open circuit breaker on front panel of appropriate battery unit (shelf E12, just forward of main equipment center, right side).
C. After installation, close circuit breaker on front panel of battery unit.
D. On airplanes with Delco INS, apply appropriate number placard on mode selector knob of unit (Ref 11-20-03).
E. On airplanes with Litton INS,
CAUTION: A THREE POSITION REMOTE ACCESS SWITCH IS MOUNTED ON THE MODE
_______ SELECTOR UNIT CHASSIS ASSEMBLY (FIG. 401) AND IS NORMALLY COVERED BY AN ACCESS COVER. LABELED SWITCH POSITIONS ARE OFF, TEST AND BIAS. THE SWITCH MUST BE SET TO THE OFF POSITION.
(1) Remove the two screws securing the access cover to the mode selector unit (Fig. 401) and verify that the remote access switch is set to the OFF position. Replace the access cover.
F. Test by performing INS turn-on check and lamp test. Refer to 34-41-03,

INS CONTROL/DISPLAY UNIT - SERVICING (RELAMPING)

1. General
_______
A. The INS control/display units (CDU) are located on the forward and aft control stand electronic panels P8 and P9. Individual lamps, data displays and the illuminated panel may be replaced while the INS is operating, without affecting the system alignment or operation.
B. The only exception is the illuminated waypoint thumbwheel on DELCO CDU's (ATLAS ALL EXCEPT IB 406-499). These lamps cannot be changed on the flight line.
