Verify that the remote access switch is set to the OFF position.

On each control display unit in forward (P9) and aft (P8) electronics panels, place AUTO/MAN/RMT switches in MAN position.

Provide electrical power (Ref 24-22-00).

Provide cooling air to INS equipment (Ref 21-58-00).
CAUTION: ENSURE THAT COOLING AIR IS AVAILABLE TO NAVIGATION UNITS
_______ BEFORE OPERATING INS. FAILURE TO PROVIDE ADEQUATE AIR SUPPLY WILL RESULT IN FAILURE OF NAVIGATION UNITS.
NOTE:____Main air supply is separate from INS fans. To verify INS fan operation, listen for sound of fans.

Close all INS, ADI and HSI circuit breakers on electronic circuit breaker panels P7 and P126.

On airplanes with PMS,
open PMS circuit breakers (Ref 34-62-00).
E. Test Inertial Navigation System
(1) Initial Turn-On and Program Number Check (ALL INS)
(a)
Verify that mode selector unit (pilot's overhead panel P5) is placed to OFF.
(b)
Place the mode selector unit to STBY.
(c)
Verify that the control display unit AUTO/MAN/RMT switch is in the MAN position.

(d) Place the control display unit data selector to POS, check that: 1) Red, amber and green lamps do not illuminate. 2) FROM/TO display is 0 0. 3) INSERT pushbutton illuminates. 4) On airplanes with INS program 72-28-0, left-hand data
display is all Zeros and an N.
5) On airplanes with INS program 72-28-0, program number 72 28 is displayed in the right-hand data display. For the complete program number 0 is displayed in the right-hand display when the HOLD pushbutton is pressed.
6) On airplanes with INS program 72-50-01, program number 72-50-01 is displayed as 72 in left display and 50 01 in right display.
7) On airplanes with INS program 72-50-02, program number 72-50-02 is displayed as 72 in left display and 50 02 in right display.
8) On airplanes with INS program 72-50-03, program number 72-50-03 is displayed as 72 in left display and 50 03 in right display.
9) On airplanes with INS program 72-50-04, program number 72-50-04 is displayed as 72 in left display and 50 04 in right display.

Display Test
(a)
Set the control display unit WPT switch to any position except
0.
(b)
Place the control display unit data selector to TEST.
(c)
Press the mode selector unit READY NAV and BATT annunciators. Verify that READY NAV annunciator illuminates green and BATT annunciator illuminates red.
(d)
Check that the ALERT, BATT and WARN lamps on the CDU illuminate.
(e)
Numerals 88.88.8 N/S are displayed in left-hand data display (N S symbols are superimposed on one another).
(f)
Numerals R88.88.8 E/W are displayed in right-hand data display (E W symbols are superimposed on one another).
(g)
Numerals 8 8 are displayed in FROM/TO display.
(h)
Rotate DIM knob and observe that intensity of left, right, and FROM/TO displays is changed.
(i)
Set DIM knob for optimum intensity.
(3)
Insert Present Position Data (All INS)
NOTE: Present position latitude and longitude should be inserted
____ as soon after turn-on as possible. Automatic alignment of the INS cannot be accomplished until this data is inserted separately into each INS through the individual control display units.

Place data selector to POS and press N2 or S8 key for north or south present position latitude. Check that left numerical display blanks, N or S appears in left-hand data display and INSERT pushbutton illuminates.
(b)
Press numbered keys in sequence for present position latitude and observe that correct latitude appears in left-hand data display.
NOTE: Numbers shift to left in display as each additional
____ number is loaded. If incorrect data is displayed, press CLEAR key and repeat steps (a) and (b).
