 2.  Weather Radar System Operational Test_____________________________________
 A.  General
 (1)  
The operational test has these parts:

 (a)  
The prepare to do a weather radar operational test.

 (b)  
The weather radar system self-test.

 (c)  
The test of the indicator controls.

 

 (2)  
The self-test uses the TEST mode switch on the WXR control panel in the TEST position. In the TEST mode the self-test circuits monitor the performance of the weather radar system.

 (3)  
The weather radar control panel is referred to as the WXR control panel.

 (4)  
During the self-test the weather radar system operates as follows:

 (a)  
It makes a test pattern which finds most system failures without test equipment.

 (b)  
The receiver/transmitter operates for 1 second.

 (c)  
A special test pattern is made on the weather radar indicators.

 C.  Prepare for the weather radar operational test:
 (1)  
Supply electrical power (AMM 24-22-00/201).

 (2)  
Supply equipment cooling (AMM 21-58-00/501).


 CAUTION: MADE SURE THE EQUIPMENT COOLING SYSTEM OPERATES
_______ BEFORE THE ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS ARE OPERATED. THE EQUIPMENT COOLING SYSTEM MUST BE SET FOR CORRECT COOLING. IF THESE CAUTION ARE NOT OBEYED, DAMAGE TO THE ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS CAN OCCUR.
 (3) Prepare each of the INUs for operation (AMM 34-41-00/501).
 (a)  Align to at least coarse align mode.
 1)  Make sure the attitude flags on the captain's and the first officer's ADI are out of view.
 (4)  Close these circuit breakers:
 (a)  P7 Overhead Circuit Breaker Panel

 (5)  
Set the ATT/COMP STAB switch on the captain's main instrument panel to CAPT 1 F/O 2.

 (6)  
AF 160, 162-171; Set the controls and switches on the WXR control panel for the operational test as follows:

 (a)  
Mode select switch - TEST

 (b)  
SYS transfer switch - 1

 (c)  
TILT control - 0 degrees

 (d)  
GAIN control - CAL

 (e)  
GND CLTR SPRS switch - OFF

 

 (7)  
AF 183, 184; Set the controls and switches on the WXR control panel for the operational test as follows:

 (a)  
TEST MODE switch - pressed

 (b)  
SYS transfer switch - OFF

 (c)  
TILT control - 0 degree

 (d)  
GAIN control - 12 o'clock

 (e)  
GND SPR switch - OFF

 

 (8)  
Position the controls on both indicators as follows:

 (a)  
AF 160, 162-171;
 PWR switch - off (released)


 (b)  
MKR intensity control - midposition

 (c)  
INT control - midposition

 (d)  
Range switch - 40

 (e)  
M/S switch - master mode position

 (f)  
AF 160, 162-171; AZ switch - off position (azimuth lines displayed)

 (g)  
AF 160, 162-171;
 HOLD switch - off (mode disabled)


 (h)  
Offset display select switch - FWD

 


 D. Procedure
 (1)  Do the weather radar system self-test.
 (a)  
AF 160, 162-171; Set the PWR switches on both indicators to ON.

 (b)  
AF 183, 184; Set the SYS switch to 1 on the WXR control panel. 1) Make sure the displays on each weather radar indicator are


 as follows (Fig. 501): a) Antenna does a complete left-to-right scan test pattern on indicators. b) The tilt angle will show +15.0, then -15.0 and stops at
 0. c) A TEST message shows in slot 1.
 2) Make sure both indicator test patterns are shown: a) A color bar shows green, yellow and red.
