A. INS Startup and Data Base Validity Check (LTN-92)
(1)
Place MSU mode selector switch to STBY.
(2)
Verify the following on the CDU display:
(a)
Top line displays PGM 92-04-10.
(b)
CUSTOM DBASE is displayed between entry line markers.
(c)
The fourth line displays the airline code and data base expiration date: SNXXXX.
____ The first two X's are the month of expiration, and the last

two X's are the year of expiration.
(d)
The fifth line displays CLR: CONTINUE
(e)
Press CDU CLR pushbutton. Verify that POSITION page is displayed.
B. INS Startup and Data Base Validity Check (LTN-72RL)
(1)
Place MSU mode selector switch to STBY.
(2)
Verify the following on the CDU display:
(a)
Title of data base (geographical zones for example USA and CANADA, or MEDITERRANEAN) is on top line.
(b)
PROGRAM 72-73-00 is on second line.
(c)
Prompt/display line between entry line markers contains dashes for entry of present day, month, and year.
(3)
Enter todays date by pressing CDU pushbuttons corresponding to digits for day, month, and year, in that sequence.
(4)
Press CDU ENT pushbutton, display changes to show DATA BASE VALID or DATA BASE EXPIRE.

A. Check alignment status as follows:
(1)
Ensure present position coordinates are entered into INS.
(2)
Place the MSU mode selector switch to ALIGN.
(3)
Press CDU STS pushbutton; SYS STS/TEST page appears on CDU display.
(4)
Observe that number on ALIGN line is status number, and number on TIME line is minutes and tenths of minutes remaining to READY NAV time. Status numbers start at 90 and decrement through 80,70,60,50,10, and 2 as alignment sequence progresses.
NOTE:On airplanes with LTN-72RL INS, The ALIGN annunciator goes out at status 2. Also, alignment status 40 will be displayed during alignment sequence.
(5)
Because the mode switch is set to ALIGN, READY NAV annunciator comes on at status 2. The mode switch may be set to NAV, the READY NAV annunciator then goes out and the ALIGN line changes to NAV with a status number of 1. The TIME line changes to time in navigation mode.

INS WRN ANNUNCIATOR FLASHES OR COMES ON STEADY DURING
ALIGNMENT SEQUENCE -
On airplanes with LTN-92 INS,
check for Malfunction and Action messages. Perform
recommended action shown on CDU display.
On airplanes with LTN-72RL INS,
check for Malfunction and Action codes as described in
previous 'Action and Malfunction Code' paragraph. Per-form recommended action shown on CDU display (Ref
Fig. 101).

A. Perform VORTAC position update as follows:
(1)
Verify that MSU mode selector switch is in NAV.
(2)
Press AUTO switch/indicator on VHF navigation control panel and verify that the indicator illuminates.
(3)
Observe frequency display on VHF navigation control panel; verify that the VOR system is tuned to the closest VORTAC station.
(4)
Press the CDU STS pushbutton, SYS STS/TEST page appears on CDU display. Slew display to place UPDATE between entry line marker. Observe display automatically changes to UDT MODE: INS page with CHANGE UDT MODE between entry line markers.
