(1) Red, amber and green lamps do not illuminate.

Program number 72-50-01 is displayed as 72 in left display and 50 01 in right display.
NOTE: The INS normally operates on the airplanes 115-volt ac power.
____ In the event the 115-volt ac power is interrupted, the system automatically switches to backup battery as indicated by the CDU BATT annunciator coming on. If the BATT light on the MSU and WARN light on CDU come on, the INS should be placed to OFF and the 115 volts ac and battery checked.
I. Set the control display unit WPT switch to any position except 0.
J. Set display selector switch to TEST. Check that the left and right numerical displays are degree signs, decimal points, arc-minute signs, NS, EW, and all eights, except left digit of right numerical display is R. From/To display is all eights and ALERT, BATT, and WARN annunciators and TK CHG, INSERT, and HOLD indicators are on.
K. If INS is no longer needed, set each mode selector switch to OFF and restore airplane to normal.

INS CONTROL/DISPLAY UNIT - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
_______
A. The INS control/display units (CDU) are located on the flight deck in the forward and aft control stand electronic panels (P9 and P8). Each unit is held in place by four quick-release fasteners and has two electrical cables attached to the rear panel through two connectors.
NOTE: The CDU individual lamps, displays and illuminated panel may
____ be replaced while INS is operating, without affecting system operation. Use 34-41-02, Servicing (Relamping).
2. Remove CDU

A. If CDU No. 2 is being removed, check that all five landing gears are locked (Ref 9-11-00 Towing), and that No. 1 and No. 4 hydraulic systems are depressurized (Ref 29-11-00, Maintenance Practices).
B. On appropriate MSU on pilots' overhead panel P5, set mode selector switch to OFF position.
C. Rotate CONTROL STAND PANEL lightplate dimmer to OFF (located on aft end of control stand adjacent to rudder trim knob).
D. Loosen four quick-release fasteners.
E. If CDU No. 2 is being removed,
place landing gear selector handle to OFF position.
CAUTION: STEP A. MUST HAVE BEEN PERFORMED BEFORE THIS POINT OR THE
_______ LANDING GEAR MIGHT COLLAPSE DAMAGING THE AIRPLANE.
F. Carefully pull CDU from panel.
G. Remove the two electrical connectors attached to the rear of CDU.
3. Install CDU
___________
A. Ensure that appropriate MSU on pilot's overhead panel P5, is set to OFF position.
B. Connect two electrical connectors to the rear of CDU.
CAUTION: CONNECTOR DB142A ON THE REAR OF THE WEATHER RADAR CONTROL
_______ PANEL (34-43-00) IS INTERCHANGEABLE WITH INS NO. 3 CDU CONNECTOR DB171A. TAKE CARE NOT TO CROSS-CONNECT THESE TWO SYSTEMS OR EQUIPMENT DAMAGE COULD RESULT.
C. Ensure that CDU is right way up and place in position.
D. Secure with the four quick-release fasteners.
E. If CDU No. 2 is being installed,
return landing gear selector handle to DOWN position.
F. After installation, test by performing INS turn-on and lamp test. Refer to 34-41-03, INS Navigation Unit - Adjustment/Test (Turn-on check and lamp test).

INS NAVIGATION UNIT - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

A. The navigation units are installed in the main equipment center on shelf E2-6 and held in place by two cam-action levers built into the unit handles. Each navigation unit is electrically connected by two connectors in the rear of the unit.

Mechanics scale - graduated in tenths of an inch

Open-end torque wrench - range of at least 20 to 30 pound-inches
