E. Prepare for the Removal

WARNING:_______OPEN THE CIRCUIT BREAKER TO PREVENT THE SPOILER RETRACTION. IF YOU USE THE SPEED BRAKE LEVER TO LIFT THE SPOILERS, AND IF YOU RELEASE PRESSURE IN SYSTEM NO.1 AND 4, THE SPOILERS WILL AUTOMATICALLY RETRACT. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.

Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:
(a)
P7, Overhead Circuit Breaker Panel
1) 7G6, SPEED BRAKE AUTO CONT
(b)
P6 Main Power Distribution Panel
1) 6J20, SPOILER/AIL SENSOR
2) 6J21, SPOILER/AIL IND

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF ALL CONTROL
_______ SURFACES BEFORE YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. AILERONS, RUDDERS, ELEVATORS, FLAPS, SPOILERS, LANDING GEAR AND THRUST REVERSERS CAN MOVE QUICKLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

Put the speed brake control lever in the UP position to lift the spoilers.

WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE AND TE
_______ FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. WITH HYDRAULIC POWER REMOVED, THE FLAPS WILL MOVE AUTOMATICALLY BY ELECTRICAL POWER WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER.

Put the flap control lever in the 30-unit detent to extend the trailing edge flaps.

Install the spoiler actuator locking tools to keep the control package in the extended position.

Remove the Spoiler

Attach the sling assembly, a load positioner, and an applicable hoist to the spoiler (Fig. 401).
(a)
Balance the load positioner for 60 pounds.

Remove the spoiler:
(a)
Disconnect the spoiler from the control package:
1) Remove the bolt (30), washer (28), bushings (27), and nut (29) from the rod end.
(b)
Remove the bolt (8), washer (9), and nut (10) to disconnect the bonding jumpers from the outer hinges.
(c)
On spoilers No. 4 or 12, remove the screw (31), washer (32), and nut (33) to disconnect the adjustment rod (34) for the position indicator.

Disconnect the spoiler from the hinges:
