Hydraulic systems No. 2, 3, and 4 supply power used in operating the spoilers. Control for spoiler operation is provided by normally open (guarded) switches located on the pilots' FLT CONTROL HYD POWER overhead panel (Fig. 1). A decal above the switches shows the hydraulic supply system for each spoiler. Surface position transmitters are installed at spoiler No. 4 on the left side and spoiler No. 12 on the right side. The two transmitters provide electrical signals to the computers to display the relative displacement and position of the two spoilers on the EICAS status display. The maximum up position for flight spoilers No. 1 thru 4 and 9 thru 12 is 45 degrees. When the speed brake control lever is in the DOWN or FLIGHT position, the maximum up position for spoilers No. 5 thru 8 is 20 degrees. When the speed brake control lever is in the UP position, spoilers No. 5 thru 8 have a maximum up position of 45 degrees.

WARNING: AILERON, SPOILER, TRAILING EDGE FLAP, RUDDER AND ELEVATOR
_______ CONTROL SURFACES, AND THE LANDING GEAR ARE FULLY POWERED. PRIOR TO PROVIDING HYDRAULIC POWER, CHECK TO ENSURE THAT PERSONNEL AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF SURFACES. ISOLATE ANY SYSTEM NOT INTENDED FOR OPERATION TO PREVENT INJURY TO PERSONNEL AND/OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
(a)
Flight spoiler operation by aileron control wheels or by speed brake control lever requires pressurization of main hydraulic supply systems No. 2, 3, and 4.
(2)
Spoiler Operation (Aileron Control Wheel)
(a)
Check that speed brake control lever is in DOWN position.
(b)
Provide electrical power.
(c)
Provide hydraulic power.
(d)
Rotate either aileron control wheel fully clockwise or counterclockwise to raise respective left or right wing spoilers. Flight spoiler positioning for panels 4 and 12 will be shown on the EICAS status display.
(e)
Return aileron control wheel to neutral position to lower spoilers.
(3)
Spoiler Operation (Speed Brake Control Lever)
(a)
Provide hydraulic and electrical power.
(b)
With aileron control wheel in neutral, place speed brake control lever in UP position to raise spoilers. Flight spoiler positioning for panels 4 and 12 will be shown on the EICAS status display.
(c)
Place speed brake control lever in DOWN position to lower spoilers.
