Install the bolt, washers and nut. 1) Tighten the nut to 700-900 pound-inches (79-101 N-m). 2) Loosen the nut to align the nearest cotter pin hole. 3) Install the cotter pin.

Do a Check of the Seals

Make sure the seals between the spoiler and the wing structure are compressed 25-30 percent.

Make sure the seals between the spoilers do not have an overlap.

Adjust the seals if they are not in the correct position.

Loosen the screws that attach the seals.

 (b)  
Adjust the seals.

 (c)  
Tighten the screws.

 (d)  
Make sure the seals on hinge No. 1 are not compressed more than 95 percent.

Examine the Spoiler to Flap Clearance

 WARNING:_______OPEN THE CIRCUIT BREAKER TO PREVENT THE SPOILER RETRACTION. IF YOU USE THE SPEED BRAKE LEVER TO LIFT THE SPOILERS, AND IF YOU RELEASE PRESSURE IN HYDRAULIC SYSTEMS NO. 1 AND 4, THE SPOILERS WILL AUTOMATICALLY RETRACT. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
 (1)  
Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:

 (a)  
P7, Overhead Circuit Breaker Panel
 1) 7G6, SPEED BRAKE AUTO CONT


 (2)  
Do this task: "Supply Electrical Power" (AMM 24-22-00/201).

 (3)  
Do this task to pressurize hydraulic system No. 1 and 4: "Hydraulic System Pressurization" (AMM 29-11-00/201).

 (4)
Put the speed brake lever in the UP position to lift the spoilers.

 NOTE: With the spoilers up, the trailing edge flaps will not hit

NOTE:____ 1  CLEARANCE. THE SPOILER HAS A 0.50 INCH (12.7 mm) PRELOAD AGAINST THE MIDFLAP THE SPOILER PANELS ARE NOT FLAT. MEASURE THE CLEARANCE AT THE NEAREST POINT. THERE IS NO MAXIMUM CLEARANCE BECAUSE OTHER PARTS OF THE PANEL CAN HAVE A GREATER YOU MEASURE THIS CLEARANCE. THE AIRPLANE MUST BE SUPPORTED ON ITS LANDING GEAR WHEN  A

 WARNING:_______ MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE AND TE
 FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE FLAP
 CONTROL LEVER.  WITH HYDRAULIC POWER REMOVED, THE FLAPS WILL
 MOVE AUTOMATICALLY BY ELECTRICAL POWER WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP

 CONTROL LEVER.
 (5)  Put the flap control lever in the UP detent to fully retract the trailing edge flaps.
 NOTE: You must fully retract the trailing edge flaps with hydraulic
____ power. Keep the flap control lever in the UP position for 1 minute before you measure the clearance.

Put the speed brake control lever in the DOWN position to lower all spoilers until the control package piston is fully retracted.

Measure the clearance between the ground spoilers and the trailing edge flaps (Fig. 402).

 (a)  
Make sure the clearance at the nearest point between the ground spoilers and the trailing edge flaps is 0.055-0.075 inch.

 (b)  
Extend the trailing edge flaps fully.

 (c)  
Adjust the piston rod end 1 turn (360 degrees) to lower the trailing edge of the spoiler to 0.567 inch.
