Manually turn the spoiler to do a check of the friction in the hinge.

 (k)  
If it is necessary, install the antirotation plate (27) with the bolt (35), washers (28), and nut (29).


 NOTE: Do not tighten the nut (29) until you install the

 (l)  Attach the control package (32) to the spoiler (1): 1) Install the bolt (30), bushings (31), washer (34) and nut (33). 2) Hold the bolt head with the spoiler socket adapter assembly. 3) Tighten the nut (33) to 1500-1800 pound-inches
 (169.5-203.4Nm) above the run-on torque. 4) Remove the spoiler socket adapter assembly. 5) If it is necessary, tighten the nut (29).

Do this task to lubricate the spoiler hinges: "Spoiler Control System Lubrication" (AMM 12-21-21/301).

Remove the spoiler actuator locking tool.

 H. Examine the Spoiler Clearances
 S 864-017
 WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF ALL CONTROL
_______ SURFACES BEFORE YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. AILERONS, RUDDERS, ELEVATORS, FLAPS, SPOILERS, LANDING GEAR, AND THRUST REVERSERS CAN MOVE QUICKLY WHEN YOU SUPPLY HYDRAULIC POWER. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.
 (1)  
Do this task to pressurize hydraulic systems No. 1 and 4:
 "Hydraulic System Pressurization" (AMM 29-11-00/201).

 (2)  
Put the speed brake control lever in the DOWN position to lower all spoilers.

 (3)  
Make sure the clearance between the spoiler and the outboard fixed wing structure is 0.55 to 0.91 inch (13.97 to 23.11mm).

Make sure the clearance between all adjacent spoilers is 0.95 to


 1.05 inches (24.13 to 26.67mm).

If a clearance is not in the tolerance, adjust the spoiler:

 (a)  
Remove the bolt (16), washers (15, 17 and 19) and nut (18) at hinge No. 2.

 (b)  
Add or remove the washers (15) from the inboard side of the hinge to get the clearance in the tolerance.

 (c)  
Install the bolt, washers and nut. 1) Tighten the nut to 2700-3300 pound-inches (305.1-372.8Nm). 2) Install the cotter pin.

Do a Check of the Spoilers Seals


 S 214-022
 (1)  Make sure the seals between the spoiler and the fixed wing structure touch with a compression of 25-30 percent.

Make sure the seals between the spoilers do not have an overlap.

Adjust the seals if they are not in the correct position:

 (a)  
Loosen the screws that attach the seals.

 (b)  
Adjust the seals.

 (c)  
Tighten the screws.

Make sure the seals on hinge No. 1 are not compressed more than 95 percent.

Examine the Spoiler to Flap Clearance (Fig. 402)

 WARNING:_______OPEN THE CIRCUIT BREAKER TO PREVENT THE SPOILER RETRACTION. IF YOU USE THE SPEED BRAKE LEVER TO LIFT THE SPOILERS, AND IF YOU RELEASE PRESSURE IN SYSTEMS NO. 1 AND 4, THE SPOILERS WILL AUTOMATICALLY RETRACT. THIS CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
 (1)  
Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:

 (a)  
P7, Overhead Circuit Breaker Panel
 1) 7G6, SPEED BRAKE AUTO CONT

 (2)  
Do this task: "Supply Electrical Power" (AMM 24-22-00/201).
