NOTE: THE AIRPLANE MUST BE SUPPORTED ON ITS LANDING GEAR WHEN YOU MEASURE THIS CLEARANCE.

THE SPOILER PANELS ARE NOT FLAT. MEASURE THE CLEARANCE AT THE NEAREST POINT. THERE IS NO MAXIMUM CLEARANCE BEACAUSE OTHER PARTS OF THE PANEL CAN HAVE A GREATER CLEARANCE. THE SPOILER HAS A 0.50 INCH (12.7 mm) PRELOAD AGAINST THE MIDFLAP.

WARNING:_______ MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE AND TE
FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE FLAP
CONTROL LEVER. WITH HYDRAULIC POWER REMOVED, THE FLAPS WILL
MOVE AUTOMATICALLY BY ELECTRICAL POWER WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP
CONTROL LEVER.
(5) Do this task: "Trailing Edge Flaps Retraction" (AMM 27-51-00/201).
NOTE: You must fully retract the trailing edge flaps with hydraulic
____ power. Keep the flap control lever in the UP position for 1 minute before you measure the clearance.

Put the speed brake lever in the DOWN position to lower all spoilers until the control package piston is fully retracted.

Turn the aileron control wheel clockwise to make sure that spoilers No. 1 thru 5 are in the fully down position.

Measure the clearance between the spoilers No. 1 thru 4 and the trailing edge flaps (Fig. 504):
(a)
Make sure the clearance at the nearest point between the spoilers No. 1 thru 4 and the trailing edge flaps is 0.02-0.16 inch(.508-4.064mm) (Section A-A). There is no specified maximum clearance.

Measure the clearance between the spoiler No. 5 and the trailing edge flaps (Fig. 504):
(a)
Make sure the clearance at the nearest point between the spoiler No. 5 and the trailing edge flaps is 0.055-0.075 inch. (1.397-1.905mm)
(b)
Extend the trailing edge flaps fully (AMM 27-51-00/201).
(c)
Adjust the piston rod end 1 turn (360 degrees) to lower the trailing edge of the spoiler to 0.567 inch.(14.402mm)

Turn the aileron control wheel counterclockwise to make sure that spoilers No. 8 thru 12 are in the fully down position.

Measure the clearance between the spoiler No. 8 and the trailing edge flaps (Fig. 504):
(a)
Make sure the clearance for the spoiler No. 8 is the same as the clearance for the spoiler No. 5.
