 SPEED BRAKE CONTROL SYSTEM - ADJUSTMENT/TEST

 1.  General_______
 A.  There are three tasks in this procedure. There is an operational test of the speed brake control system. There is an adjustment of the speed brake control system. And there is a system test of the speed brake control system.
 (1)  
To do the operational test of the speed brake control system you move the control levers to make sure the speed brakes operate correctly. You must move the speed brake lever, the thrust levers and the reverse thrust levers. This test includes the operational test of the automatic speed brake control system.

 (2)  
The adjustment of the speed brake control system has these parts:

 (a)  
The installation of the landing gear door locks

 (b)  
An adjustment of the control rods, stops and cables.

 (c)  
An extension of the spoilers

 (d)  
An adjustment of the clearance between the spoiler and the flaps

 (e)  
The removal of the landing gear door locks.

 (3)  
The system test of the speed brake control system has these parts:

 (a)  
A measurement of the response time of the spoilers

 (b)  
A measurement of the force necessary to move the speed brake lever

 (c)  
The simulation of the air mode

 (d)  
A check of the speed brake lever stop system

 (e)  
A test of the automatic operation of the spoilers and indication system.

 C. Procedure
 S 865-003
 (1)  
Do this task: "Supply Electrical Power" (AMM 24-22-00/201).

 S 865-002

 (2)  
Do this task to pressurize the hydraulic systems with an air-driven pump or an engine-driven pump: "Hydraulic System Pressurization" (AMM 29-11-00/201).

 (3)  
Monitor the thrust resolver angle (TRA) on the EICAS.

Put the captain's aileron control wheel in the neutral position.

 (5)  
Do a test of the operation of the speed brake control system:

 (a)  
Move the speed brake lever to the DN position.

 (b)  
Make sure that all of the spoilers are in the fully down position.

 (c)  
Move the No. 1 and No. 3 thrust levers until their TRA displays on the EICAS are more than 45.2 degrees.

 (d)  
Move the No. 2 and 4 reverse thrust levers to the idle position.

 (e)  
Move the speed brake lever to the ARM position.

 (f)  
Make sure that all spoilers stay in the fully retracted position.

 (g)  
Move the speed brake lever to the FLIGHT DETENT position.

 (h)  
Make sure that spoilers No. 3, 4, 9 and 10 extend to the 45-degree position.

 (i)  
Make sure that spoilers No. 5 thru 8 extend to the 20-degree position.

 (j)  
Make sure that spoilers No. 1, 2, 11 and 12 are in the fully retracted position.
