 2)  Check that the gap between the bushing on the top of the fitting assembly and the lock cap (18) is 0.0100 to 0.0024 inch (0.254 - 0.061 mm).
 3)  Adjust the gap as necessary by adding or removing shims (19) and fillers (20).
 NOTE: This is an itterative process to get the correct
____
 gap.

 4)  Lubricate the attach fitting assembly with BMS 3-33 grease at the zerk fitting on the support fitting. Wipe off excess grease.
 CAUTION: MAKE SURE THAT YOU DO NOT INSTALL THE BALL SCREW 180
_______ DEGREES OUT OF PHASE. THE FLAPS CAN BECOME LOCKED IN THE UP POSITION OR CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE UPSTOPS.
 (c)  Attach the ball screw nut to the actuator attach fitting (C or D, Fig. 402): 1) Turn the ball screw nut until it aligns with the actuator
 attach fitting. 2) Make sure the dimension Y is the same as it was before the
 removal. 3) Make sure the ball returns on the ball screw nut are down. 4) Apply a layer of corrosion preventive compound to the
 bolts (10) and the bolt holes.
 5)  Install the two gimbal caps (3). a) Make sure the keys on the gimbal caps engage the slots. b) Make sure the bushing flange is against the ball screw
 nut.
 6)  ON BALL SCREWS NO. 1, 2, 7 AND 8;
 install the four bolts and washers (4).
 a) ON BALL SCREWS NO. 1 AND 8;

 tighten the bolts to 225-275 pound-inches (25-31 N-m). b) ON BALL SCREWS NO. 2 AND 7; tighten the bolts to 450-550 pound-inches (51-62 N-m). 7) ON BALL SCREWS NO. 3, 4, 5 AND 6; install the bolts, washers (4 and 8), and nuts (7).
 NOTE: Install a sufficient number of washers (8) below
____ the bolt heads to make sure the bolt goes 0.03-0.08 inch (0.76-2.0 mm) through the nut.
 a)  ON BALL SCREWS NO. 3 AND 6; tighten the nuts to 120-150 pound-inches (14-17 N-m).

 b)  ON BALL SCREWS NO. 4 AND 5; tighten the nuts to 200-240 pound-inches (23-27 N-m).

Remove the tools from the ball screw and the flap track.

Adjust the Ball Screw Flap Up Position

 (1)  Do this task to pressurize hydraulic systems No. 1 and 4:
 "Pressurize Hydraulic Systems" (AMM 29-11-00/201).

 WARNING: MAKE SURE THAT PERSONS AND EQUIPMENT ARE CLEAR OF THE LE AND TE
_______ FLAPS AND FLAP DRIVE MECHANISMS BEFORE YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER. WITH HYDRAULIC POWER REMOVED, THE FLAPS WILL MOVE AUTOMATICALLY BY ELECTRICAL POWER WHEN YOU MOVE THE FLAP CONTROL LEVER.
 CAUTION:_______MONITOR THE FLAP MOVEMENT CAREFULLY. THE FLAPS CAN BE DAMAGED BY INCORRECTLY ADJUSTED COMPONENTS.
 (2)  
Remove the DO-NOT-MOVE tag and put the flap control lever in the UP detent to retract the flaps.

Make sure the clearance between the universal joint stop and ball screw nut stop is 1/4 to 3/4 turn (0.54 to 0.90 inch (13.7-22.9 mm) on inboard flap transmissions and 0.45 to 0.74 inch (11.4-18.8 mm) on outboard flap transmissions).

Adjust the ball screw if the clearance is out of the tolerance:

Do this task to depressurize hydraulic systems No. 1 and 4:
 "Depressurize Hydraulic Systems" (AMM 29-11-00/201).


 (a)  
Adjust the ball screw: 1) Disconnect the torque tubes from the transmissions.


 NOTE: Do not turn the drive system with components
____ disconnected. It will be necessary to adjust the flap drive system.
