4. DME System - System Test

A. General
(1) The system test is a functional check of the DME system. The test uses an external test set which makes ground station interrogations and shows the interrogator's reply. This test makes sure the interrogator's operation is correct.

Close these circuit breakers:
(a) P7 Overhead Circuit Breaker Panel
1) 7B08 NAV RADIO DME L
2) 7B19 NAV RADIO DME R

(3) Make sure these systems are serviceable:
(a)
Flight Interphone System (AMM 23-51-00/501)
(b)
Integrated Display System (AMM 31-61-00/501)
(c)
Flight Management Computer System (AMM 34-61-00/501)
(d)
Central Maintenance Computer System (AMM 45-10-00/201)

CAUTION: NEVER PLACE REMOTE TEST SET ANTENNA CLOSER THAN 15 INCHES TO
_______ AIRPLANE ANTENNA WITH TEST SET ON OR DAMAGE TO TEST SET WILL RESULT.
(4) Position remote test set antenna approximately 21 inches from DME antenna for system under test. Test set antenna should be approximately same height as airplane antenna.

On the RAMP test set, set the switches for these conditions:

(7) On the EICAS select panel (P2-4), set these switches:
(a)
= the FMC L/R switch to L.
(b)
= EIU L/R/C/AUTO to AUTO.

(8) Push the NAV RAD key on the left CDU. The NAV RADIO page will show on the CDU.
E. Left DME System Test

(1)
Use the alphanumeric keypad to set the left VOR frequency to 108.00 MHZ in the PRESELECT area of the CDU.

Push the LSK adjacent to the <VOR-L prompt.
(a) Make sure the DME-L distance indications on the captain's and the first officer's ND's show 150.0 |1.0 NM.
