 AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL (ATC) ANTENNA - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure has two tasks. The first task is the removal of the ATC antenna. The second task is the installation of the ATC antenna.
 B.  Two ATC antennas are installed on the fuselage. The bottom ATC antenna is installed on the bottom of the fuselage on the buttock line at station
 570. The top ATC antenna is installed on the top of the fuselage at RBL 4.5 at station 610. The procedure is applicable to the top and the bottom antennas. Safety precautions must be taken when removing/installing the top antenna.

 (1)  Sealant removal tool - hardwood or plastic

 D.  Procedure

 (1)  Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:
 (a)  P7 Overhead Circuit Breaker Panel
 1) 7B10 NAV RADIO ATC L
 2) 7B22 NAV RADIO ATC R

Remove the aerodynamic smoother from around the ATC antenna base (AMM 51-31-01/201).

 (3)  
Remove the ATC Antenna

 (a) Remove the fasteners from the ATC antenna base.

 CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE FORCE WITH THE SEALANT REMOVAL
_______ TOOL TO BREAK THE ANTENNA SEAL. TOO MUCH FORCE CAN DAMAGE THE AIRPLANE SKIN OR THE ELECTRICAL CABLE AT THE ANTENNA BASE.
 1) Use force around the antenna with the sealant removal tool until the seal is fully broken. 2) Pull the ATC antenna until you can get access to the antenna cable connector at the base of the antenna.

Disconnect the coaxial connector DB101 on the upper ATC antenna or DB102 on the lower ATC antenna.

Make sure the coaxial connector does not fall back into the fuselage.

Resistance measuring bridge or ohmmeter capable of measuring 0.025 ohm with an accuarcy of |0.001 ohm.
