 G.  A suppression circuit connects the DME, ATC and TCAS (if installed) systems together and a mutual transmission suppression signal is provided from the on-line system to prevent the others from transmitting.
 H.  The left and right DME interrogators receive 115 volt, 400 Hz power from BUS 3 and BUS 2 respectively. Power to the interrogators is controlled by DME L and DME R circuit breakers which are mounted on the overhead circuit breaker panel P7.
 2.  DME Interrogator
________________
 A.  Two DME interrogators are installed in the airplane. The left and right interrogators are located in the main equipment center E-2 rack, shelves 2 and 3 respectively. The interrogators slide in the rack and mate with connectors located at the rear of the interrogator. The interrogators operate in the L-band frequency range with a transmission frequency range of 1025 to 1150 MHz and recieves on a frequency range of 962 to 1213 MHz.
 B.  The Interrogator front panel contains a Liquid Crystal Display (LCD); two TEST pushbutton switches; a memory card slot and a Test connector. Any of the Two switches are used by maintenance personel to start the test of the DME system. The LCD shows the results. The memory card slot is used by shop personel to put in a flash memory card which loads software into LRU. The memory card can also keep L RU condition data sent by the LRU during operation. The RS 232 connector is used to connect shop test equipment to the LRU. This feature is not for use by line maintenance pesonel.
 3.  DME Antenna

 A.  Two DME antennas are installed in the airplane. The left and right DME antennas are dedicated to the left and right interrogator and are located at the bottom of the fuselage at stations 690 and 830 respectively. Each antenna is connected to the interrogator by coaxial cable. The antennas are used to both receive and transmit DME interrogations.
 4.  DME Control (Fig 2)

 A.  The DME interrogator has two types of tuning control modes - AUTOTUNE and MANUAL TUNE. When autotuning, both interrogators are controlled by the on line flight management computer (FMC). Manual tune of the left and right interrogators are performed exclusively by the left and right CDUs respectively whenever both FMCs are disabled.
 (1)  AUTOTUNE Mode - Control of the DME interrogator is provided by either the left or right FMC, depending of the position of the EICAS select panel - FMC switch (Fig 1) (Ref 34-61-00). Based on information in the FMC data base or from information entered in on the CDU, the DME interrogator is sent an encoded 32-bit data control word via an ARINC 429 data bus. This control word directs the DME system as required by the FMC. The NAV RADIO page display on any CDU displays current DME system configuration tuning data and allows manual entries by the flight deck to change the existing DME tuning or control configuration.
