 TRAFFIC ALERT AND COLLISION AVOIDANCE SYSTEM (TCAS)
___________________________________________________ DIRECTIONAL ANTENNA - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

 1.  General_______
 A.  This procedure has two tasks. One is the removal of the TCAS directional antenna; the other is the installation of the TCAS directional antenna.
 B.  The TCAS has two directional antennas. The top antenna is installed on the top of the airplane at station 450. The other is installed on the bottom of the airplane at station 490.4 (Fig. 401)..

 2.  TCAS Directional Antenna Removal________________________________

 (1)  Sealant removal tool - hardwood or plastic

 (1)  
Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:

 (a)  P7 Overhead Circuit Breaker Panel
 1) 7A5, TCAS

 (2)  
Remove the TCAS antenna.

 CAUTION: BE CAREFUL WHEN YOU USE FORCE WITH THE SEALANT REMOVAL TOOL TO
_______ BREAK THE ANTENNA SEAL. TOO MUCH FORCE CAN DAMAGE THE AIRPLANE SKIN OR THE ELECTRICAL CABLE AT THE BASE OF THE ANTENNA.
 (a)  
Break the sealant that cover the screws that attach the antenna to the airplane.

 (b)  
Remove the screws.

 (c)  
Use force around the antenna with the sealant removal tool until the seal is fully broken.

 CAUTION: MOVE THE ANTENNA ONLY AS FAR AS NECESSARY TO DISCONNECT THE
_______ CABLES. DAMAGE TO THE ANTENNA CABLES CAN OCCUR IF YOU PULL THE CABLES.
 (d)  
Move the antenna until you can get access to the antenna cable connectors.

 (e)  
Disconnect the antenna cables.

 NOTE: Do not let the antenna cables retract into the
____ fuselage. Put the cap at the end of the cable to prevent sealant contamination.
 (f)  
Remove the TCAS antenna.

 (g)  
Remove the sealant from the airplane skin in the antenna area (AMM 20-11-14/701).

 (h)  
Use a clean rag and the solvent, BMS 11-7, to clean the airplane surface in the antenna area (AMM 20-11-14/701).
