IRS position initialization can be accomplished in four ways. These are manual entry or field transfer through line selections.
(a) Manual entry is accomplished by typing in the present latitude and longitude into the CDU scratchpad then pressing the LSK next to the SET IRS POS data field.

Entry can also be made through data transfer by line selections. The LAST POS, REF AIRPORT and GATE headers will have a corresponding latitude and longtitude. Selecting the LSK next to any of these will transfer that data into the scratchpad. Then by selecting the LSK for SET IRS POS the position will be transferred into the selected field.
(c)
A RE-ENTER IRS POS message will appear in the scratchpad if an invalid entry has occurred. If so, repeat the entry procedure after clearing the scratchpad.
(d)
The FMC will automatically display the greenwich mean time in the data field below the GMT header. The local time can also be displayed on the CDU. 1) The CDU will only accept an entry that is in hours. The
minute and seconds will remain on GMT. To do this, the hours are entered into the scratchpad with the CDU keyboard and the LSK next to the GMT header is pushed.
2) Set all IRS mode select switches to the NAV position.
D. Route selection

Access of the RTE pages can be made through the POS INIT page by pressing the LSK next to the ROUTE prompt or by pressing the RTE key on the CDU.

The route page (RTE1 or RTE2) which will be displayed depends upon several factors:
(a)
If a modified active or pending activation route exists, RTE page 1/X for the modified active or pending activation route is displayed.
(b)
If the RTE, RTE LEGS, RTE HOLD, RTE DATA or WINDS page is displayed before selection of the RTE key, the RTE page 1/X for the same route is displayed.
(c)
If a route is active, RTE page 1/X for the active route is displayed.
(d)
If none of the preceeding conditions exist, then RTE page 1/X for route 1 is displayed.

While displaying a route page, whether route 1 or route 2, if ACTIVATE is displayed, the diplayed route is non-active. If PERF INIT is displayed, this indicates the route displayed is active with incomplete entries on the PERF INIT page. If TAKEOFF is displayed, this indicates the route displayed is active with PERF INIT entries complete. OFFSET may be displayed, while airplane is airborne, for pilot selection of an offset course.

In order to activate a route the LSK next to the ACTIVATE prompt must be selected. This will induce pending activation of that route. The EXEC annunciator will come on. Pressing the EXEC function key will activate the displayed route.

The route pages will enable the crew to enter the flight plan into the FMC in two ways. One way is to enter the company route identifier and the other is to enter the route manually.
