CONTROL DISPLAY UNIT - REMOVAL/INSTALLATION

1. General
_______
A. This subject has two tasks. The first task is to remove the Control Display Unit (CDU).
B. The second task is to install the CDU. This task includes a test of the installed CDU.
C. The CDUs are installed in the flight compartment on the forward electronic panel, P9, and the aft electronic panel, P8. The left CDU (CDU-L) and the right CDU (CDU-R) are installed in the forward electronic panel. The center CDU (CDU-C) is installed in the aft electronic panel.

(1) Open these circuit breakers and attach DO-NOT-CLOSE tags:
(a) P7 Overhead Circuit Breaker Panel
1) 7C1 FMCS FMC L
2) 7C2 FMCS CDU L
3) 7C23 FMCS FMC R
4) 7C24 FMCS CDU R
5) 7C3 FMCS CDU C

WARNING: MAKE SURE YOU REMOVE THE HYDRAULIC PRESSURE BEFORE YOU CHANGE
_______ THE POSITION FOR THE SPEED BREAK HANDLE OR THE LANDING GEAR HANDLE. INJURY TO PERSONS OR DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT CAN OCCUR.

Release the Hydraulic Pressure (Ref 29-11-00/201).

Pull the speed brake handle aft to the UP position if you are to remove the left CDU.
NOTE: The speed brake handle can cause a blockage when you remove

the left CDU.

WARNING: YOU MUST CAREFULLY INSTALL THE GROUND LOCKS IN ALL LANDING
_______ GEAR. AN ACCIDENTAL RETRACTION OF THE LANDING GEAR CAN CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS AND DAMAGE TO EQUIPMENT.

Install the ground locks in all landing gear if you are to remove the right CDU (Ref 09-11-00/201).

Move the landing gear handle to the OFF position if you are to remove the right CDU.
NOTE: The landing gear handle can cause a blockage when you remove

the right CDU.

CAUTION: DO NOT TOUCH THE CONNECTOR PINS OR OTHER CONDUCTORS ON THE
_______ CONTROL DISPLAY UNIT. IF YOU TOUCH THESE CONDUCTORS, ELECTROSTATIC DISCHARGE FROM YOUR BODY CAN CAUSE DAMAGE TO THE CONTROL DISPLAY UNIT.
(6) Remove the CDU:
(a)
Release the fasteners on the front of the CDU.
(b)
Lift the handle and pull the CDU out until you can get access to the electrical connectors on the rear of the CDU.
(c)
Disconnect the electrical connectors from the CDU.
(d)
Install the dust caps on the electrical connectors.
