(2) Install the latch assembly.
(a)
FORWARD ESCAPE SLIDES; Do these steps (Fig. 204): 1) Carefully extend the girt. 2) Align the holes in the girt strap bracket with the hole in
the nylon tube at the end of the girt release strap. 3) Put the bolt through the girt strap bracket and the nylon tube. 4) Tighten the nut on the end of the bolt.
(b)
AFT ESCAPE SLIDES; Do these steps (Fig. 205): 1) Carefully extend the girt. 2) Make sure the latch cable is twelve inches in length. 3) To attach the girt bar to the latch, do these steps:
a) Fold the latch cable around the girt bar in the center of the girt window. b) Put the ends of the latch cable on each side of the latch hole.
WARNING:_______MAKE SURE THE LATCH CABLE IS BEHIND THE GIRT. IF THE LATCH CABLE IS NOT BEHIND THE GIRT, THE LATCH CABLE WILL BE ON TOP OF THE GIRT AFTER THE ESCAPE SLIDE IS DEPLOYED. IF THE LATCH CABLE IS ON TOP OF THE GIRT AFTER THE ESCAPE SLIDE IS DEPLOYED, USE OF THE ESCAPE SLIDE MAY CAUSE INJURY TO PERSONS.
c) Make sure the latch cable is behind the girt
(Fig. 201).
d) Put washers on the outside of the latch cable loops.
e) Attach the latch cable to the latch with a screw and a
nut.
f) Attach the latch cables to each other with two self-locking straps.

(3) FORWARD ESCAPE SLIDES; Attach the girt to the compartment.
(a)
BACKING PANS AND GIRT WITHOUT VELCRO;
Fold the girt on the backing pan shelf.
(b)
BACKING PANS AND GIRT WITH VELCRO;
Attach the girt to the backing pan with velcro.
(c)
Attach the girt retaining flap to the girt with velcro.

(d) Make sure the velcro strips on the bottom side of the girt and on the backing pan shelf are clean.

(4) AFT ESCAPE SLIDES; Attach the cover strap to the backing pan with a screw, a nut, and a washer.
NOTE: Make sure the nut and washer are outside of the backing pan.

CAUTION:_______MAKE SURE THE GIRT PAYOUT LENGTH IS CORRECT. IF THE GIRT PAYOUT LENGTH IS NOT CORRECT, THE ESCAPE SLIDE WILL NOT OPERATE SAFELY.
(5) Make sure the girt payout length is correct.
NOTE: Measure the girt payout length from the bottom of the slide
____ pack compartment at the center to the girt bar at the center.
(a) FORWARD ESCAPE SLIDES; ú The girt payout length must be 11.00 (+1.0/-0.5) inches.
(b) AFT ESCAPE SLIDES; The girt payout length must be 7.00 (+1.0/-1.0) inches.

Close the compartment cover.

Latch the compartment cover (Fig. 206, Steps 1 to 4):
(a)
Put the girt on the compartment cover so you can see the latch bracket.
(b)
Align the latch bracket of the backing pan with the latch bracket of the compartment cover (Step 1).
(c)
Put the latch in the correct position (Step 2).
(d)
Push the latch between the brackets (Step 3).
(e)
Turn the latch to lock the two brackets together (Step 4).
(f)
FORWARD ESCAPE SLIDES; Make sure the sum of the clearances between the latch brackets (on the forward and aft side of the latch) is no more than
0.02 inch (0.508 mm).
(g)
AFT ESCAPE SLIDES; Make sure the sum of the clearances between the latch brackets (on the forward and aft side of the latch) is equal to 0.00 inch (0.00 mm).
