_______ YOUR SKIN. DO NOT BREATHE THE FUMES FROM SOLVENTS. SOLVENTS ARE HAZARDOUS MATERIALS. SOLVENTS MA BE FLAMMABLE OR HARMFUL TO THE ENVIRONMENT. REFER TO PRODUCT MATERIAL SAFETY DATA SHEETS (MSDS) AND LOCAL REQUIREMENTS FOR PROPER HANDLING PROCEDURES.
CAUTION: DO NOT LET SOLVENTS STAY ON PLASTICS FOR TOO MUCH TIME.
_______ IF YOU LET THE SOLVENTS STAY ON THE PLASTICS FOR TOO MUCH TIME, DAMAGE TO THE PLASTICS WILL OCCUR.
(a)
Rub the surface with a cheesecloth that is moist with solvent, Series 98 (AMM 20-30-98/201).
(b)
Dry the surface with a clean dry wiper before the solvent, Series 98 (AMM 20-30-98/201) becomes dry.
(c)
Apply masking tape to the adjacent surfaces.
(d)
Apply BMS 10-83, Type I, or Polane primer to the area you will paint.

(2) Prepare to paint the polycarbonate (Lexan) surfaces with these steps:
(a)
Clean the surface with a cheesecloth that is moist with a mixed detergent.
(b)
Rub the surface lightly with 180-grit (minimum grit number) abrasive paper to remove the gloss.
(c)
Clean the surface with a clean cheesecloth that is moist with the mixed detergent.
(d)
Examine the surface for porosity and voids. If you find surface porosity or voids, do these steps: 1) Put putty on a clean cheesecloth at package consistency. 2) Rub the surface with the cheesecloth to push the putty into
the surface defects. 3) Let the putty dry for 3/4 to one hour. 4) Remove the unwanted putty with abrasive paper. 5) Clean the surface with cheesecloth that is moist with a
mixed detergent.
CAUTION: YOU MUST USE BMS 10-83, TYPE I PRIMER BEFORE YOU PAINT
_______ POLYCARBONATE SURFACES. THE SOLVENTS IN THE PAINT CAN DAMAGE THE POLYCARBONATE IF YOU DO NOT USE THE CORRECT PRIMER.
(e) Apply BMS 10-83, Type I primer to the surface of the part you want to paint.

(3) Prepare to paint the ULTEM and Declar surfaces with these steps:
(a)
Clean the surface of the part with cheesecloth that is moist with a mixed detergent or isopropyl alcohol.
(b)
Dry the surface with a clean dry wiper.
NOTE: If you use isopropyl alcohol, dry the surface before

the alcohol becomes dry.
(c)
Examine the surface for porosity or voids. If you find surface porosity or voids, refer to the steps given before to repair the surface of polycarbonate materials.
(d)
Clean the surface of the part again with cheesecloth that is moist with mixed detergent or isopropyl alcohol.
(e)
Dry the surface with a clean dry wiper.
NOTE: If you use isopropyl alcohol, dry the surface before

the alcohol becomes dry.
(f) Apply the E61WC40 Polane primer to the surface.
E. Paint the Tedlar, Polycarbonate, ULTEM, and Declar Surfaces

Obey the manufacturer's instructions to mix the polyurethane paint.

Apply several cross-layers of paint until the color agrees with the adjacent areas.

Remove the masking tape, if applicable.

Let the first layer of paint cure for two hours at 70 to 80 degrees F before you touch it.

Let the first layer cure for one hour before you apply a texture coat.

If it is necessary, apply a texture layer of the same paint
(do not make it thin).

Let it dry for three hours before you touch it.
