STORAGE AND DISTRIBUTION - DESCRIPTION AND OPERATION
____________________________________________________
R **ON A/C 001-003, 051-099, 401-499,
1. General
_______
The oil storage and distribution system supplies filtered, temperature and
pressure regulated oil to:
-
the engine,
-
the APU generator.
The system has:
-an integral oil reservoir (gearbox sump) with an magnetic chip detector,
-a combined pressure and scavenge pump,
-
two oil filters,
-
two differential-pressure indicators,
-an oil cooler assembly,
-a de-oil solenoid,
-an oil-sump temperature sensor.
The gearbox sump is a wet sump which is also the integral oil reservoir. The
generator and the turbine sumps are scavenged sumps. The three sumps have no
direct connection between each other.

A. Storage
(1) The lower part of the accessory drive gearbox (Ref. 49-26-00) is the integral oil reservoir of the APU. You can fill the oil reservoir by gravity fill or with a pressure fill device. The gravity fill port, the pressure fill port and the pressure-fill overflow port are installed on the engine left side. The gravity fill port has an oil sight glass and an oil scupper. You can read the oil level on the oil sight glass. It must be between the FULL and the ADD mark. The oil quantity of the gearbox at:
NOTE : The values in the brackets are related to a gearbox with an
____
installed oil heater.
-
the FULL mark is 6.24 l (1.6484 USgal) (6.10 l (1.6114 USgal)),
-
the ADD mark is 4.29 l (1.1332 USgal) (4.15 l (1.0963
USgal)). The difference between the two marks is 1.95 l (0.5151 USgal). During the gravity fill procedure, oil can be dropped on the APU and in the APU compartment, the oil scupper prevents this.
(2)
When the oil level is too low, the low oil level switch transmits a signal to the ECB 59KD (Ref. 49-93-00). If the APU is stopped and the aircraft is on the ground, the APU system page of the Electronic Instrument System (EIS) shows the LOW OIL LEVEL advisory message in pulsing green. If the oil quantity is more than the set minimum, nothing shows.
