 B. Inspection Check of the Magnetic Chip Detector (MCD).
 (1)
 Inspect the MCD (2) for signs of metal particles.

 (2)
 A small amount of thin metal slivers, swarf or fines is acceptable and the APU can continue in service.


 NOTE : No silver material (silver-plated steel flakes) is permitted.

 (3)
 If the head of the MCD is covered with a dense layer of metal particles which have a definite shape, strips or flakes of silver-plated steel, reject the APU on the grounds that bearing failure is suspected.

 (4)
 If a medium quantity of particles, not including silver-plated steel, is found on the MCD, following procedures are necessary:


 (a) Inspect the generator scavenge oil filter (Ref. TASK 49-91-41-200-001).
 (b)
 Inspect the lube pump oil filter (Ref. TASK 49-91-45-200-002). Subtask 49-91-42-420-052

 C.
 Installation of the Magnetic Chip Detector (MCD).


 (1) Apply a thin layer of lubricant OILS (Material No. 03-002) to the new R packing (3)
 (2)
 Install the new packing (3) on the MCD (2).

 (3)
 Clean and install the MCD (2) in the drain plug (8077KM) (1).


 (4)
 Safety the MCD with MISCELLANEOUS (Material No. 19-010).

 Remove the safety clip(s) and the tag(s) and close this(these) circuit breaker(s): 1KD, 2KD

 E. Start and operate the APU.
 (1)
 Close the APU access doors (Ref. TASK 52-41-00-410-001).

 (2)
 Start the APU (Ref. TASK 49-00-00-860-003).

 (3)
 Allows the APU to run 5 minutes.

 (4)
 Shutdown the APU (Ref. TASK 49-00-00-860-004).

 (5)
 Open the APU access doors 315AL, 136AR (Ref. TASK 52-41-00-010-001).

 (6)
 Do a leak check on the MCD (5).
 NOTE : No leakage is permitted.

 Do a visual check of the oil quantity in the APU. Add oil if the oil level is on or less than the ADD mark on the sight glass (Ref. TASK 49-90-00-600-001).

 (1)
 Make sure that the work area is clean and clear of tool(s) and other items.

 (2)
 Remove the ground support and maintenance equipment, the special and standard tools and all other items.

 (3)
 Close the APU access doors 315AL, 316AR (Ref. TASK 52-41-00-410-001).


 (4)
 Remove the access platform(s). Subtask 49-91-42-860-063

 B.
 Aircraft Maintenance Configuration

 (1)
 Pressurize the reservoirs of the hydraulic systems.
 (Ref. TASK 29-14-00-614-002).


 (2)
 De-energize the ground service network
 (Ref. TASK 24-42-00-862-001).


 (3)
 Remove the warning notice(s).
